KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: A simple culturing method for Acanthamoeba available at a clinical laboratory is a key for making timely diagnosis and starting treatment with topical 0.02% chlorhexidine gluconate eye drops, together with 0.1% miconazole or fluconazole eye drops.
ABSTRACT: A 19-year-old woman with pain and injection in the right eye showed spotty corneal infiltration and radiating linear opacity. Suspicious of Acanthamoeba keratitis, corneal scraping, and the soft contact lens were sent to in-house clinical laboratory to culture successfully Acanthamoeba on Sabouraud dextrose agar plate painted with heat-treated dead bacilli.
