In a recent issue of Annals of Surgery, Halazun and colleagues present a new proposal for selection of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for liver transplantation2 . By reviewing patients who were transplanted at three different centers between 2001 and 2013, the authors analyzed predictors of outcomes. A total of 1540 patients with HCC were included in the analysis (680 at UCLA, and 388 and 382 at two NY centers), and the primary endpoint was 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS).
