Toxocariasis is a zoonosis transmitted by the nematode Toxocara spp. Immunocompromised hosts are more susceptible than general population to bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. In this population toxocariasis may present as exacerbation or reactivation and could have severe or atypical manifestations being a diagnostic challenge for healthcare providers. We report a case of a presumptive pulmonary toxocariasis during chemotherapy in a patient affected by acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and Hodgkin lymphoma and we summarize current evidence of pulmonary involvement in immunocompromised population with Toxocara spp infection in a narrative review...

Nocardiosis is a disease that mainly affects immunocompromised patients. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are standard of care for asthma. This treatment can induce respiratory infections but no case of bronchiolitis nocardiosis have been described so far. A 58-year-old man, with history of controlled moderate allergic asthma, develop an increased cought in the last two years associated with dyspnea on exertion. Within two months, although ICS were increased to high doses, symptoms worsened due to a severe obstructive ventilatory disorder as revealed by pulmonary function tests (PFT)...

UNLABELLED: Rengalin liquid formulation on the basis of antibodies to bradikinin histamine and morphine was specially designed for the treatment of cough in children. The three-component combination in therapeutically active against both dry and wet cough due to effect on diverse pathogenetic aspects of the cough reflex. The aim of the multicenter, comparative, randomized clinical trial was to estimate the efficacy and safety of rengalin in the treatment of cough in patients with acute respiratory infection (ARI) of the upper respiratory tract...

The present study was carried out in a herd with concurrent infections of Mycoplasma wenyonii and 'Candidatus M. haemobos', to investigate if transplacental and/or vector-borne transmission is possible for one or both bovine haemoplasma species. For this purpose blood samples were collected from 38 mother animals and their newborn calves; as well as from 17 uninseminated cows twice three months apart. In addition, 311 mosquitoes and blood-sucking flies (Diptera: Culicidae, Tabanidae, Muscidae) were cought near the animals...

Introduction. Inflammatory pseudo-tumors (IPT) of the liver are rare and difficult to diagnose, because mimicking malignant tumors. Aim. We report a case of IPT of the liver wich diagnosis was made on clinical, radiological and evolutif features. Observation. A 15-year-old man had a 4-month history of abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant with fever and cought. Two successives ultrasonographies revealed a hypoechoic lesion occuping the segment VIII with 8 cm of diametre. Physical examination was normal...

AIM: The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the surgical feasibility of a new device for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence, named tension-free vaginal tape (TVT)-secur. Fifteen patients underwent the TVT-secur procedure. METHODS: The mean operation time was 13 minutes (range, 7-21). There was no intraoperative complication. Duration of surgery was shorter in the second half of cases than in the first eight procedures. RESULTS: The number of technical difficulties experienced by the surgeon was significantly higher in the first 8 procedures than in the following 7 cases; these difficulties included bleeding reducing the identification of anatomical structures, dislocation or removal of the mesh tape during the removal of the inserter, need to repeat the procedure...

Quantitative investigations on variability of visual morphological parameters in neurons BB1, BB3-5 and clusters BBb have been performed on the ventral side of the visceral ganglion in 20 molluscs Lymnaea stagnalis L. (height of the shell -45.5-1.3 mm, variation coefficient -2.9%) cought in the same pond and on the same day. Statistical analysis of the data obtained is performed by means of the methods applied for analysing small independent samples. A probability character of visual identification and an essential variability are demonstrated for the parameters of the neuron BB1 (diameter, position, colour), of the number of giant and/or large neurons BB3-5 and the cluster BBb neurons...

Agamae are regularly found in great numbers in the neighbourhood of water supply plants and excrements of these animals can be traced to the plants proper. In order to ascertain the cause of drinking water infections, 37 Agamae were cought, immediately killed and the bowel contents examined. It was found that the Agamae have no uniform microbial population and that none of the aerobically cultivated bacterial species is present in all animals (Tablet 1 indicates the species for each animal). With regard to the hygienic inspection of drinking water it is important to know that only some of the Agamae discharge E...
