Stroke is a life-threatening condition caused by the rupture of a brain blood vessel, potentially causing brain damage within minutes, severe disability, and even death. After initial hospitalization and rehabilitation, most stroke survivors return home, relying on their family members as caregivers for activities of daily living and treatments. This scoping review aimed to evaluate caregivers' readiness for transitioning stroke patient care to a home environment. We conducted a comprehensive search on Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases, followed by a secondary search to identify articles based on predefined criteria...

The phase problem is a well known ill-posed reconstruction problem of coherent lens-less microscopic imaging, where only the squared magnitude of a complex wavefront is measured by a detector while the phase information of the wave field is lost. To retrieve the lost information, common algorithms rely either on multiple data acquisitions under varying measurement conditions or on the application of strong constraints such as a spatial support. In X-ray near-field holography, however, these methods are rendered impractical in the setting of time sensitive in situ and operando measurements...

BACKGROUND: Researchers have highlighted the importance of early access to concussion care within one week of injury in reducing recovery times. However, a persisting question for concussion researchers is "just how early is important?" The purpose of this study was to examine differences in recovery time as predicted by the number of days elapsed since injury (DSI) to initial evaluation among patients who had access to a specialty concussion clinic within seven days. We hypothesized that DSI group membership, even within seven days, would significantly predict risk of protracted recovery (i...

Phenylketonuria is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder mainly due to a significant reduction in the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, resulting in elevation of phenylalanine in the blood. Here, we have established two fibroblast-derived induced pluripotent stem cell lines using Sendai virus-based reprogramming. The established induced pluripotent stem cell lines exhibited a normal karyotype and expressed markers of pluripotency assessed through quantitative PCR, flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry...

We employed a Sendai virus-based reprogramming method to transform human lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCL) derived from two individuals diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU) into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). This reprogramming process involved the expression of the four Yamanaka factors: KLF4, OCT4, SOX2, and C-MYC. The resulting patient-specific iPSCs exhibited a normal karyotype and expressed endogenous pluripotent markers NANOG and OCT-4. Notably, these iPSCs demonstrated strong differentiation capabilities, giving rise to cell populations representing the ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm germ layers...

BACKGROUND: The behavior of Abscisic acid (ABA) as a stress phytohormone may be involved in mechanisms leading to tolerance and survival in adverse environmental conditions such as drought stress. METHODS: Here, we evaluated ABA-mediated responses at physio-biochemical and molecular levels in drought-stressed seedlings of two different Desi-type chickpea genotypes (10 as a tolerant genotype and 247 as a sensitive one). RESULTS: Under drought stress, two chickpea genotypes showed a decrease in their relative water content (RWC), and the intense decrease was related to the sensitive genotype (73...

Imprint Desorption Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Imaging (IDESI-MSI) has proven to be a robust and reliable tool for chemically imaging biological samples such as fungi, animal tissues, and plants, but the choice of the imprint substrate is crucial. It must effectively transfer maximum amounts of species from the sample while preserving the original spatial distribution of detected molecules. In this study, we explored the potential of utilizing an oil-absorbing film, known for its soft nature and excellent lipophilicity, as an imprint substrate for IDESI-MSI on biological samples...

We introduce single cell Proteoform imaging Mass Spectrometry ( scPiMS ), which realizes the benefit of direct solvent extraction and MS detection of intact proteins from single cells dropcast onto glass slides. Sampling and detection of whole proteoforms by individual ion mass spectrometry enable a scalable approach to single cell proteomics. This new scPiMS platform addresses the throughput bottleneck in single cell proteomics and boosts the cell processing rate by several fold while accessing protein composition with higher coverage...

Flavan-3-ols are prominent phenolic compounds found abundantly in the young leaves of tea plants. The enzymes involved in flavan-3-ol biosynthesis in tea plants have been extensively investigated. However, the localization and associations of these numerous functional enzymes within cells have been largely neglected. In this study, we aimed to investigate the synthesis of flavan-3-ols in tea plants, particularly focusing on epigallocatechin gallate. Our analysis involving the DESI-MSI method to reveal a distinct distribution pattern of B-ring trihydroxylated flavonoids, primarily concentrated in the outer layer of buds...

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a considerable leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, is the most common primary liver cancer with poor prognosis and outcome. Many advances in prevention, screening, and new technologies in diagnostics and therapy have been achieved, but its incidence and mortality remain increasing. Co-infection of another viral disease in HCC patients with pregnancy might exacerbate the condition and double the mortality rate. The aim of this case report was to describe the co-infection of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in an HCC patient during pregnancy...

Ingestion of corrosive substances is most common in children, while in adults causes more severe damages. Massive ingestion of corrosive substances results in severe damage to the gastrointestinal tract and oropharynx if not treated properly. Corrosive substances with pH<2 or >12 can result in severe esophageal damage with either colliquative (alkaline) or coagulative (acidic) necrosis and, at the same time various gastrointestinal injuries could lead to late post-corrosive complications. The aim of the case study was to report the gastrointestinal mucosal damages due to hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) ingestion...
