Schistosomiasis is a major cause of fibrosis and portal hypertension. The reason 4-10% of infected subjects develops hepatosplenic schistosomiasis remains unclear. Chronically infected male CBA/J mice reproduce the dichotomic forms of human schistosomiasis. Most mice (80%) develop moderate splenomegaly syndrome (similar to hepatointestinal disease in humans) and 20% present severe hypersplenomegaly syndrome (analogous to human hepatosplenic disease). We demonstrated that the profibrogenic molecule osteopontin discriminates between mice with severe and mild disease and could be a novel morbidity biomarker in murine and human schistosomiasis...

There is currently interest in sulfur-containing molecules that may or may not play a role in signaling. We have collected relevant thermodynamic data, namely standard Gibbs energies of formation and electrode potentials at pH 7, and used these to construct a Frost diagram. Thermodynamic data not available in the literature could be estimated with reasonable confidence. At pH 7, the electrode potential of the RSS/RSS(-) couple is +0.68 V, 0.28 V less than that of the RS, H(+)/RSH couple. S2(-) is unstable with respect to HSS(-) and S2...

The performance of a 3.0mm×150mm column packed with 1.8μm fully porous HSS-SB-C18 particles was investigated in supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) with low-density, highly expansible carbon dioxide. These conditions are selected for the analysis of semi-volatile compounds. Elevated temperatures (>100°C) were then combined with low column back pressures (<100bar). In this work, the inlet temperature of pure carbon dioxide was set at 107°C, the active back pressure regulator (ABPR) pressure was fixed at 100bar, and the flow rate was set at 2...
