BACKGROUND: Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is a potentially fatal condition lacking a single test with acceptable diagnostic accuracy. (18)F-FDG PET/CT has emerged as a promising imaging modality, but is challenged by physiological myocardial glucose uptake. An alternative tracer, (68)Ga-DOTANOC, binds to somatostatin receptors on inflammatory cells in sarcoid granulomas. We therefore aimed to conduct a proof-of-concept study using (68)Ga-DOTANOC to diagnose CS. In addition, we compared diagnostic accuracy and inter-observer variability of (68)Ga-DOTANOC vs...

BACKGROUND: Appropriate use criteria (AUC) have been developed to aid in the optimal use of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)-myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), a technique that is a mainstay of risk assessment for ischemic heart disease. The impact of appropriate use on the prognostic value of SPECT-MPI is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: A prospective cohort study of 1511 consecutive patients undergoing outpatient, community-based SPECT-MPI was conducted...

PURPOSE: This study aimed to clarify the relationship between severity of conduction delay in the left ventricle and myocardial uptake of (99m)Tc-tetrofosmin (TF) in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients with left bundle branch block (LBBB). METHODS AND RESULTS: Thirty-two DCM patients with LBBB underwent electrocardiography and (99m)Tc-TF myocardial single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). SPECT images were acquired at 30 min (early images) and 3 h (late images) after injection...

INTRODUCTION: Inflammation forms an important core of the aetiopathogenic process involved in many diseases affecting the heart and the blood vessels. These diseases include infections as well as inflammatory non-infectious cardiovascular conditions. The common feature of this is invasion of the heart or blood vessel by inflammatory cells. F-18 2-fluoro 2-deoxy-D glucose (FDG) is an analogue of glucose and like glucose it is taken up by activated inflammatory cells that accumulate at the site of infection...

BACKGROUND: Simultaneous acquisition Positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance (PET/MR) is a new technology that has potential as a tool both in research and clinical diagnosis. However, cardiac PET acquisition has not yet been validated using MR imaging for attenuation correction (AC). The goal of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of PET imaging using a standard 2-point Dixon volume interpolated breathhold examination (VIBE) MR sequence for AC. METHODS AND RESULTS: Evaluation was performed in both phantom and patient data...

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of myocardial blood flow (MBF) quantitation of (99m)Tc-Sestamibi (MIBI) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) compared with (13)N-Ammonia (NH3) position emission tomography (PET) on the same cohorts. BACKGROUND: Recent advances of SPECT technologies have been applied to develop MBF quantitation as a promising tool to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD) for areas where PET MBF quantitation is not available...

BACKGROUND Non-neoplastic causes such as infections and thrombi account for most intracardiac masses. Primary tumors such as myxomas and metastasis from breast cancer, lung cancer, or melanomas account for many of the remaining cases. Burkitt lymphoma manifesting as an intracardiac mass is a rare entity, with 21 cases reported in the English literature. CASE REPORT We report the case of a man infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who presented with non-specific cardiac symptoms and was later found to have intracardiac mass caused by Burkitt lymphoma...

PURPOSE: The diagnosis of prosthetic valve (PV) infective endocarditis (IE) and infection of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) remains challenging. The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in these patients and analyse the interpretation criteria. METHODS: We included 41 patients suspected of having IE by the Duke criteria who underwent (18)F-FDG PET/CT. The criteria applied for classifying the findings as positive/negative for IE were: (a) visual analysis of only PET images with attenuation-correction (AC PET images); (b) visual analysis of both AC PET images and PET images without AC (NAC PET images); (c) qualitative analysis of NAC PET images; and (d) semiquantitative analysis of AC PET images...
