BACKGROUND: Muckle-Wells-syndrome (MWS) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by systemic and organ-specific inflammation due to excessive interleukin (IL)-1 release. Inner ear inflammation results in irreversible sensorineural hearing loss, if untreated. Early recognition and therapy may prevent deafness.
