OBJECTIVES: Episodes of psychotic agitation are frequent in patients with dual diagnosis, that is, in patients with concomitant psychiatric and substance use disorders. Rapid intervention is needed to treat the agitation at a mild stage to prevent the escalation to aggressive behavior. Inhaled loxapine has been demonstrated to rapidly improve symptoms of mild-to-moderate agitation in adults with psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and bipolar disorder), but data on patients with dual diagnosis are scarce...

GABA analogs containing phenyl (phenibut) or para-chlorophenyl (baclofen) substituents demonstrated nootropic activity in a dose of 20 mg/kg: they improved passive avoidance conditioning, decelerated its natural extinction, and exerted antiamnestic effect on the models of amnesia provoked by scopolamine or electroshock. Tolyl-containing GABA analog (tolibut, 20 mg/kg) exhibited antiamnestic activity only on the model of electroshock-induced amnesia. Baclofen and, to a lesser extent, tolibut alleviated seizures provoked by electroshock, i...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
I V Ivanov, R A Bondarenko
Analysis of archival data revealed subsidence of situational anxiety accompanying work under psycho-emotional stress after administration of pharmacologically different psychotropic agents, such as stimulant mesocarb, nootropic and anxiolytic fenibut, tranquilizer fenazepam and alpha-adrenoblocker proroxan. Effectiveness of pharmacological anxiety control was dependent on individual sensitivity to these agents. Prescription of the medications with allowance for the factor reduced group-average levels of situational anxiety in 1...

INTRODUCTION: Ayurveda is known for philosophical basis, and its approach to psychological ailments is quite different from conventional system of management. Satvavajaya Chikitsa (Ayurvedic psychotherapy) is a nonpharmacological approach aimed at control of mind and restraining it from unwholesome Artha (objects) or stressors. Withdrawal of the mind from unwholesome objects is known as Sattvavajaya Chikitsa or it is a treatment by Self Control. Charaka defines it as a mind controlling therapy in which a stress has been laid on restraining of mind from unwholesome objects...

ETHNO-PHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Cyperus rotundus L. (Cyperaceae) is a medicinal herb traditionally used to treat various clinical conditions at home such as diarrhea, diabetes, pyresis, inflammation, malaria, and stomach and bowel disorders. Currently, it is one of the most widespread, problematic, and economically damaging agronomic weeds, growing wildly in various tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The present paper summarizes the available information that will aid in future medicine preparation by identifying active ingredients and their mode of action for a specific therapeutic activity using the latest technologies...

Hopantenic acid is a well-known nootropic drug similar in its chemical structure to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Neurotropic effects of hopantenic acid act through binding with delta- and kappa opioid receptors, modulation of acetylcholine secretion and relationship with dopamine receptors. Besides neurotropic effects, hopantenic acid may modulate the metabolism of prostaglandins, steroids and have antitumor effects.
