BACKGROUND: Prognostic value of prophylactic level VII nodal dissection in papillary thyroid carcinoma has been highlighted. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 27 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma with N0 neck underwent total thyroidectomy with level VI and VII nodal dissection through same collar neck incision. Multicentricity, bilaterality, extrathyroidal extension, level VI and VII lymph nodes were studied as separate and independent prognostic factors for DFS at 24 months...

BACKGROUND: Therapeutic central neck dissection (CND) is an accepted part of the management of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), while prophylactic CND remains controversial. Regardless of the indication for CND, the lower anatomic border of the central compartment, specifically the inclusion or otherwise of level VII, is not always clearly defined in the literature. This study aimed to determine if the routine inclusion of level VII lymph node dissection as part of CND confers increased utility in the detection of macrometastatic lymph nodes compared with level VI dissection alone...

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess prognosis of isolated local recurrence (ILR) of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) after radical nephrectomy (RN). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective study involved 22 cases (16 men and 6 women) of ILR from two centers with a mean age of 60.1±8.5 years. All cases were managed surgically. RESULTS: Primary tumors were mainly clear cell carcinoma (n=17). Nine patients had T3 and T4 tumors. Local recurrence involved mainly the operative bed (n=17); 4 among them had nodal recurrence as well...

AIM: To evaluate the outcome of stapled versus sutured colo-rectal anastomosis after low anterior resection of mid-rectal carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A prospective study of fifty patients who underwent colo-rectal anastomosis following low anterior resection (LAR) of T2 mid-rectal cancers at the Egyptian National Cancer Institute during the time period from June 2010 to June 2013 was conducted. Classification was into two groups; a stapled anastomosis group I (25 patients) and a hand-sewn anastomosis group II (25 patients)...
