BACKGROUND: Regardless of symptoms, paraesophageal hiatal hernias should be repaired in order to prevent complications. This study reports the University of California San Francisco experience with laparoscopic repair of paraesophageal hiatal hernias, emphasizing the technical steps essential for good results.
