COMPARATIVE STUDY

UNLABELLED: Steel's triple innominate osteotomy was created for correcting dysplastic acetabulum in adolescents and young adults. We modified Steel's triple innominate osteotomy with two anterior incisions and ramus cuts close to the acetabulum to improve the mobility of the fragment for better coverage of the hip. The purpose of this study was to compare these two techniques with respect to acetabular morphology, femoral head coverage, and medialization. From 1989 to 2007, 22 hips from 19 adolescents and young adults underwent triple innominate osteotomy for symptomatic acetabular dysplasia with Tonnis grades 1 or 2...

PURPOSE: We studied changes of contact stress distribution in the hip joint after Tonnis triple pelvic osteotomy applied in the treatment of dysplasia and hip joint incongruence in adolescents. METHODS: In a group of 75 patients, 54 (72 %) female, who underwent surgery by triple pelvic osteotomy in adolescence for developmental disorder of the hip and avascular necrosis of the femoral head, a three-dimensional hip joint model was used based on the radiography of the pelvis with hips...

Neurogenic conditions and syndromes are often associated with clinically significant acetabular dysplasia and/or instability of the hip. Options for surgical treatment include reshaping, salvage, or redirectional pelvic osteotomies. "Complete" redirectional osteotomies, including the triple innominate osteotomy and the periacetabular osteotomy, completely free the acetabulum from the rest of the pelvis thereby allowing the surgeon to obtain large corrections and to control the position of the acetabulum in multiple planes...

REVIEW
Ira Zaltz
BACKGROUND: The periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) described by Ganz and colleagues is currently used to reorient the acetabulum in cases of acetabular dysplasia and malrotation. It is considered a technically difficult procedure with a formidable learning curve. The purpose of this paper is to answer the following questions: (1) What are the current indications and technique of the PAO? (2) What is the available biomechanical evidence that supports acetabular reorientation? (3) What measures are established for intraoperative assessment of acetabular correction? METHODS: A systematic literature review of Pubmed, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library was performed for selected keywords...
