Acute aortic syndrome is a relatively recent clinical entity. Non-invasive imaging methods, such as computed tomography and transesophageal echocardiography, have contributed significantly to the diagnosis of variant forms of classic aortic dissection, which have become important disease entities in acute aortic syndrome.
