The widespread availability of ultrasound (US) technology has increased its use for point of care applications in many health care settings. Focused (point of care) US is defined as the act of bringing US evaluation to the bedside for real-time performance. These images are collected immediately by the practitioner, allowing for direct integration into the physician's medical decision-making process. BACKGROUND: Hematoma blocks of the radius can provide excellent analgesia for simple distal radius fractures. Point-of-care ultrasound has become a useful clinical adjunct, especially in emergency medicine, because it is noninvasive, repeatable, and nonradiating. In cases of pulled elbow also known as nursemaid's elbow or radial head subluxation, diagnosis is usually performed clinically. However, there is the potential for a failed reduction or misdiagnosis. We introduce a potentially useful diagnostic finding for pulled elbow ("Hook sign") using point-of-care ultrasound in the emergency department.

Patients commonly present with orthopedic injuries to the emergency department (ED). Although radiographs are the standard of care for evaulating these injuries, point-of-care ultrasound is being increasingly used to make the diagnosis.
