PURPOSE: To compare the outcome in patients who underwent surgery for unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures using the proximal femoral locking plate versus the dynamic hip screw (DHS). METHODS: 15 men and 5 women aged 32 to 78 (mean, 55) years were randomised to the proximal femoral locking plate group, whereas 14 men and 6 women aged 38 to 75 (mean, 59) years were randomised to the conventional 135-degree DHS group.
