Preradiotherapy dental extractions and health-related quality of life.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the connection between preradiotherapy dental extractions and self-reported health-related QoL.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective data on patients treated with radiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer were pooled with the results of a cross-sectional survey.
RESULTS: Greater than eight preradiotherapy dental extractions, p16 negative status, female gender, and positive smoking status were associated with statistically significant reduced QoL.
CONCLUSIONS: Preradiotherapy dental extractions do not result in improved QoL and, in fact, may worsen it.
