Recurrent spontaneous pneumomediastinum in a child with tracheomalacia.

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum in children is a very rare, benign entity. Recurrent episodes are exceptional. Identifying an underlying trigger is crucial, and very often, spontaneous pneumomediastinum occurs in association with an asthma exacerbation. We report the case of a patient in which we hypothesize that an underlying tracheomalacia can be held responsible for the recurrent pneumomediastinum, which is to this date the first case with this assumption.
