The New Ski-Skating Poles.
Physician and Sportsmedicine 1994 January
In brief During competition, a cross-country skier sustained a fifth metacarpal fracture, which is an unusual injury in this population. The skier's shelf-support pole grip, along with twisting of the flexed fifth finger, might have contributed to the mechanism of injury. As ski-skaters look to new pole grips to increase their power and thrust, physicians may see more of these injuries. Urging patients who use these models to properly adjust their grip straps may help prevent these injuries.
