Vision, Eye Care, and the Athlete.

In brief: Eyesight and clarity of vision are not the only aspects of eye care for athletes. Today's eye care professionals-the opticians, ophthalmologists, and optometrists-must be able to help athletes enhance their performance not only with proper evaluation of visual acuity, but also by providing the most appropriate means of correction and protection for the sport involved. This panel of eye care experts discussed standardized testing, mandatory examinations, screening, types of eye protection for specific sports, and education needs for eye care professionals, coaches, trainers, and athletes.
