Subdural Hematoma in a High School Football Player.

In brief: A high school football player sustained a blow to the head during a game but did not lose consciousness or show immediate neurological impairment. He later developed a subdural hematoma. To help those who provide medical care at sports events diagnose the severity of head injuries quickly and accurately, the authors review the types of concussion, on-field and sideline examinations, and guidelines for returning the athlete to play. They also provide instructions for fitting helmets properly.
