[Update on current care guidelines: atrial fibrillation].

New features in the Finnish guidelines for management of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) include a recommendation to use the EHRA score in evaluation of AF-related symptoms and introduction of comprehensive CHA DS VASc and HAS-BLED scoring systems for stratifying the risk of thrombotic and bleeding complications, respectively. Recommendations on the use of two new antiarrhythmic drugs are included. Vernakalant is indicated for pharmacological cardioversion and dronedarone for prevention of AF. They can be used by patients with cardiac disease, except for those with severe heart failure. Catheter ablation can be considered as a first-line treatment in selected patients with lone AF.
