A growing number of central pancreatectomies are performed. However, reconstruction of pancreaticoenteral digestive continuity after central pancreatectomy remains debated. This study evaluates the short-term outcomes of binding pancreaticogastrostomy anastomosis in central pancreatectomy. We have reviewed our experience with 52 patients who underwent binding pancreaticogastrostomy following central pancreatectomy from February 2009 to March 2015. Indication includes 6 noninvasive intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, 11 neuroendocrine tumors, 12 solid pseudopapillary tumor, 9 serous cystadenoma, 6 mucinous cystadenoma, and 8 focal pancreatic traumas...

Diffuse serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) associated with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) is a rare finding reported previously in only three patients to the best of our knowledge. We herein present one such interesting report of a diffuse serous cystic adenoma (SCA) and co-existent PNET in a 25-year old lady who presented with abdominal pain for past 6 months. A triple-phase pancreatic protocol computed tomography (CT) scan revealed multiple cysts involving the entire pancreas. The cysts were thin walled, ranging from 2 to 8 cm in width, with no calcification or central scar that was confirmed at laparotomy...

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) surveillance of patients with mucinous pancreatic cysts relies on the assessment of morphologic features suggestive of malignant transformation. These criteria were derived from the evaluation of surgical pathology in patients with pancreatic cysts who underwent surgery. Reliability of these criteria when evaluated by EUS in identifying lesions which require surgery has still not been established. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included seventy-eight patients who underwent surgical resection of pancreatic cysts based on EUS-FNA (fine-needle aspiration) findings suggestive of mucinous pancreatic cysts with concern for malignancy...

Cystic pancreatic tumors account for 10% of cystic lesions in the pancreas. Evaluation focuses on identifying lesions that require surgical resection due to actual or potential malignancy. Cystic tumors with malignant potential include mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCN), intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN), and cystic neuroendocrine tumors. The sensitivity of endoscopic fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to diagnose such lesions is low and a more accurate marker of malignant potential is needed. Aldo-keto reductase 1B10 (AKR1B10) was originally found in human hepatocellular carcinoma...

Solid serous cystadenoma is an uncommon benign pancreatic tumor, with only, including this case, 21 cases published so far. It is often misdiagnosis with other malignant pancreatic tumors. Below we report a new case of a solid serous cystadenoma of the pancreas treated by laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy in 53-year-old female who presented with epigastric pain. Histological and immunohistochemical examination revealed a solid serous cystadenoma of the pancreas. Preoperative diagnosis of this subtype of serous cystadenoma is difficult, and, due to its benign nature, conservative resection of the tumor is the recommended treatment...

A 45-year-old man presented with a 24-mm macrocystic lesion at the pancreatic head, which was detected by computed tomography (CT). During six years of follow-up, CT, MRI, and endosonographic images of the cystic lesion showed that the cystic lesion had enlarged to 42mm, with the appearance of a thick cyst wall. Since a cystic tumor could not be ruled out, surgery was performed. Pathological examination of the resected specimen revealed microcystic-type serous cystadenoma of the pancreas, with the presence of internal bleeding in the cyst and hemorrhage and thick fibrous tissue in the cyst wall...

AIM: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) is an uncommon pancreatic tumor characterized by solid and pseudopapillary growth patterns. We have observed SPNs can show a microcystic pattern (microcystic SPN), which has been poorly described and may be confused with microcystic neoplasms. We conducted the present study to clarify the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of microcystic SPNs. METHOD: We examined a consecutive series of 44 SPNs and 10 SCAs, and we classified them into 13 microcystic SPNs (29...

The giant ovarian serous cystadenoma is a rare finding and often benign. The use of the laparoscopic approach versus open approach for the management of huge ovarian cysts is controversial. We report a case of a 27-year-old woman with a history of increasing abdominal girth over a period of two years along with radiological investigations revealed a large tumor arising from the right ovary treated by complete laparoscopic extirpation of a giant ovarian cyst. The complete laparoscopic approach for huge cyst is a feasible treatment when having a normal tumor marker profile and benign imaging appearance...

Malignant transformation of the fallopian tube mucosa, followed by exfoliation of malignant cells onto ovarian and/or peritoneal surfaces, has been implicated as the origin of most pelvic high-grade serous carcinoma. Whether a parallel pathway exists for pelvic low-grade serous tumors [ovarian serous borderline tumor (SBT) and low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC)] remains to be fully elucidated. The literature is challenging to interpret due to variation in the diagnostic criteria and terminology for cytologically low-grade proliferations of the fallopian tube mucosa, as well as variation in fallopian tube specimen sampling...

The management of pancreatic cysts is a common problem faced by physicians and surgeons. Pancreatic cysts are important because some of them are mucin-producing cysts (MPCs), which may harbor or develop pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Thus, accurate classification of pancreatic cysts and diagnosis of MPCs offer a potential for the prevention or early detection of pancreatic cancer. However, the diagnosis and management of asymptomatic pancreatic cysts are complicated by 2 factors. First, incidentally detected pancreatic cysts are often misdiagnosed as branch duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms...

Pancreatic cysts, especially incidental asymptomatic ones seen on noninvasive imaging such as CT or MR imaging, remain a clinical challenge. The etiology of such cysts may range from benign cysts without any malignant potential such as pancreatic pseudocysts and serous cystadenomas to premalignant or frankly malignant cysts such as mucinous cystic neoplasms, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, cystic degeneration associated with solid tumors such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma or pancreatic endocrine neoplasms, and solid pseudopapillary neoplasms...

Serous cystadenomas of pancreas are unusual cystic tumour. The microcystic forms is more common and its radiological diagnosis is easy. However, the macrocystic unilocular form of serous cystadenoma can be mistaken with other malignant macrocystic lesions of the pancreas. We report the case of a 17 year-old girl, admitted to the National Hospital of Niamey (Niger), with abdominal pain and an unilocular macrocystic serous cystadenoma of pancreas, diagnosed after histological examination of the surgical specimen...
