Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are prevalent among all hand injuries, commonly due to a fall on an outstretched hand. Not being treated properly can cause many complications such as malunion, non-union, reduced range of motion, and muscle strength. This case report presents a multidisciplinary approach to the physiotherapeutic management of a DRF treated with closed reduction internal fixation using K-wires. The rehabilitation protocol incorporated matrix rhythm therapy (MRT), a novel therapeutic technique, in combination with targeted therapeutic exercises...

OBJECTIVES: : Several studies have reported that oropharyngeal myofunctional therapy (OMT) reduces the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, because OMT protocols are often complicated, they take time and effort to implement. The aim of this study was to determine the therapeutic effect of 8 weeks of simple tongue strength training with a training device. METHODS: : Twenty patients with mild to moderate sleep-disordered breathing were randomized to the control group (n=10) or intervention group (n=10)...

Occupational therapy is a profession with origins rooted in Western values. As culture plays an important role in shaping theory and practice, the curriculum design of academic programs that train future rehabilitation professionals should reflect the local context. As part of an international partnership, a dual-degree graduate program in occupational therapy was established between a Chinese and an American university. A team composed of members from both institutions collaborated on culturally adapting an entry-level master's program in occupational therapy for China, based on a U...

BACKGROUND: Individuals recovering from stroke often experience cognitive and emotional impairments, but rehab programs tend to focus on motor skills. The aim of this investigation is to systematically assess the change of magnitude of cognitive and emotional function subsequent to a conventional rehabilitative protocol administered to stroke survivors within a defined locale in China. METHODS: This is a multicenter study; a total of 1884 stroke survivors who received in-hospital rehabilitation therapy were assessed on admission (T0) and discharge (T1)...

BACKGROUND: Individuals living with chronic advanced cancer (CAC) often face distinct physical, functional, and cognitive issues. Their rehabilitation needs are not yet routinely met, warranting further CAC-specific rehabilitation-based research. Given the complexity of functional and symptom presentations, engagement of individuals living with CAC as partners in the research process is encouraged to better understand the lived perspective. Formal engagement requires both structured approaches and iterative processes...

The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of home-based pulmonary rehabilitation on exercise capacity in patients with post COVID-19 syndrome. METHODS: The study was designed as a randomized control trial. A total of sixty-eight patients with post COVID-19 syndrome complaining of fatigue, dyspnea, and exercise intolerance participated in this study...

The incidence of stroke rising, leading to an increased demand for rehabilitation services. Literature has consistently shown that early and intensive rehabilitation is beneficial for stroke patients. Robot-assisted devices have been extensively studied in this context, as they have the potential to increase the frequency of therapy sessions and thereby the intensity. Robot-assisted systems can be combined with electrical stimulation to further enhance muscle activation and patient compliance. The objective of this study was to review the effectiveness of electrical stimulation combined with all types of robot-assisted technology for lower extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients...

Aphasia research has traditionally been considered a (unidisciplinary) niche topic in medical science. The international Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (CATs) is a global collaboration of multidisciplinary aphasia researchers. Over the past 10 years, CATs has collectively taken a rigorous approach to systematically address persistent challenges to aphasia research quality. This article summarizes the achievements over the past decade. CATs' achievements include: standardizing terminology, advancing aphasia research design by aphasia expert consensus recommendations, developing a core data set and intervention descriptors, facilitating the involvement of people with the language impairment aphasia in the research process, translating, and adapting assessment tools into global languages, encouraging data sharing, developing innovative secondary data analysis methodologies and promoting the transparency and accessibility of high quality aphasia research reports...

Individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) are characterized by gait and balance disorders limiting their independence and quality of life. Home-based rehabilitation programs, combined with drug therapy, demonstrated to be beneficial in the daily-life activities of PD subjects. Sensorized shoes can extract balance- and gait-related data in home-based scenarios and allow clinicians to monitor subjects' activities. In this study, we verified the capability of a pair of sensorized shoes (including pressure-sensitive insoles and one inertial measurement unit) in assessing ground-level walking and body weight shift exercises...

Cardio-oncology rehabilitation (CORE) is not only an essential component of cancer rehabilitation, but also a pillar of preventive cardio-oncology. CORE is a comprehensive model based on a multitargeted approach and its efficacy has been widely documented; when compared to an "exercise only" program, comprehensive CORE demonstrates a better outcome. It involves nutritional counseling, psychological support and cardiovascular risk assessment, and it is directed to a very demanding population with a heavy burden of cardiovascular diseases driven by physical inactivity, cancer therapy-induced metabolic derangements and cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicities...

The most prevalent sensory impairment impacting the elderly is age-related hearing loss (HL), which affects around 65% of individuals over the age of 60 years. This bilateral, symmetrical sensorineural impairment profoundly affects auditory perception, speech discrimination, and the overall understanding of auditory signals. Influenced by diverse factors, age-related HL can substantially influence an individual's quality of life and mental health and can lead to depression. Cochlear implantation (CI) stands as a standard intervention, yet despite advancements, music perception challenges persist, which can be addressed with individualized music therapy...
