OBJECTIVES: Endometrioid carcinoma of the ovary is one of the most types of epithelial ovarian cancer associated to endometrioisis. Endometrioid tumors as well as endometriotic implants are characterized by the presence of epithelial cells, stromal cells, or a combination of booth, that resemble the endometrial cells, suggesting a possible endometrial origin of these tumors. Pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1 (IL-1) have been reported to be involved in both endometriosis and ovarian carcinogenesis...

Here, we report regarding the health status and medical support for patients suffering from endometrioisis in South Tyrol, which is a politically autonomous province in the north of Italy containing three different ethnic groups. The health service is administered largely by the autonomous regional government. Because of the establishment of a centre for reproductive medicine and the introduction of laparoscopy as a prime surgery method, the gynaecological department of the hospital in Bruneck developed into a reference centre for diagnosis and surgical treatment for endometriosis...

Factors that increase inflammation have been suggested to influence the development of ovarian cancer, but these factors have not been well studied. To further investigate this question, we studied the role of talc use, history of endometrioisis and use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and risk of ovarian cancer in a population-based case-control study in Los Angeles County involving 609 women with newly diagnosed epithelial ovarian cancer and 688 population-based control women. Risk of ovarian cancer increased significantly with increasing frequency and duration of talc use; compared to never users risk was highest among long-duration (20+ years), frequent (at least daily) talc users (adjusted relative risk (RR) = 2...

INTRODUCTION: Catamenial haemoptysis is a rare clinical entity resulting from the presence of ectopic intra pulmonary endometrial tissue, either parenchymatous or endobronchial. The main diagnostic criterion is the periodic character of the haemoptysis which is synchronous with menstruation. CASE REPORT: The authors report a case of catamenial haemoptysis due to endobronchial endometriosis in a 46 year old menopausal woman receiving hormone replacement treatment (HRT)...

This study was undertaken to evaluate the clinical features and survival outcomes of ovarian cancer patients who had associated pelvic endometrioisis. The medical records of 1076 patients with ovarian cancer treated at Chiang Mai University Hospital between 1995 and 2005 were reviewed. Among of these patients, 37 (3.4%) had associated pelvic endometriosis. The mean age of the patients was 44 years (25-62 years). The most common presenting sign and symptom was an abdominal mass (12), followed by abdominal pain (10), abdominal distension (7), abnormal uterine bleeding (2)...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mitogenic and angiogenic activity of the eutopic and ectopic endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle and to examine whether the activity of the eutopic endometrium is useful to predict greater activity of the ectopic endometrium. DESIGN: Controlled clinicopathologic study using intact tissue. SETTING: Nagasaki University School of Medicine, Nagasaki, Japan. PATIENT(S): Fifteen infertile women with pelvic endometriosis and 10 women without endometriosis undergoing laparoscopy...
