BACKGROUND: A pathogenic role of intraglomerular plasmin bound to nephritogenic antigen (nephritis-associated plasmin receptor, NAPlr) and resistant to physiologic inhibitors such as alpha(2)-antiplasmin (alpha(2)-AP) has recently been proposed in acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN).
