One-dimensional (1D) confinement has been revealed to effectively tune the properties of materials in homogeneous states. The 1D physics can be further enriched by electronic inhomogeneity, which unfortunately remains largely unknown. Here we demonstrate the ultra-high sensitivity to magnetic fluctuations and the tunability of phase stability in the electronic transport properties of self-assembled electronically phase-separated manganite nanowires with extreme aspect ratio. Insulin receptors play key roles in growth, development, and polymorphism in insects. Here, we report two insulin receptor genes (AcInR1 and AcInR2) from the brown citrus aphid, Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus. Transcriptional analyses showed that AcInR1 increased during the nymph-adult transition in alate aphids, while AcInR2 had the highest expression level in second instar nymphs. AcInR1 is important in aphid development from fourth instar nymphs to adults as verified by dsRNA feeding mediated RNAi. Copper catalyzed regioselective C-H sulfonyloxylation of electron-rich arenes with p-toluenesulfonic acid has been developed. Electron-rich benzene derivatives and heteroarenes can undergo this C-H sulfonyloxylation reaction to generate aryl tosylates. Furthermore, sulfonyloxylation of aryl(mesityl)iodonium sulfonates has also been investigated. Both aryl(mesityl)iodonium tosylates and triflates can react smoothly to get aryl sulfonates. The different effects of cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) on the Schiff base reactions in aqueous solution were explored by 1H NMR spectroscopy and single X-ray crystallography. With CB[7] the condensation reaction of aldehyde and primary amine is dramatically inhibited. In contrast the presence of CB[7] does tremendously stabilize iminium cation in water through ion-dipole interactions. A single crystal structure of the complex of iminium ion 7 with CB[7] grown in water is reported.

A well-defined nanocomposite cathode material of selenium and carbon nanosheets (Se/CNSs) is prepared by confining chain-like Sen molecules in hierarchically micro-mesoporous carbon nanosheets. A novel technique for the design and controllable preparation of holey MnO2 nanosheets was first developed by an in situ redox reaction between the MnO2 nanosheets and adsorbed Fe(2+) ions at room temperature, in which Fe(2+) ions originated from a redox reaction between Cu wire and Fe(3+) ions. The formation of in-plane nanopores on the MnO2 nanosheets obviously improved the rate capability when they were used as promising supercapacitor electrodes.
