INTRODUCTION: Addressing U.S. health disparities in behavioral health care requires innovative solutions to expand access beyond the traditional specialty behavioral health (BH) service model. One evidence-based strategy to increase access is task shifting, whereby tasks usually reserved for licensed clinicians are delegated to less specialized but uniquely capable health workers. Health care systems in the United States have been slow to adopt this approach, despite the widespread success of task shifting in other countries...

BACKGROUND: The rising incidence of prostate cancer in the U.S. necessitates innovative therapeutic approaches to this disease. Though extensive research has studied Selenium as an anticarcinogen against prostate cancer, results have varied due to overlooked experimental confounds. Recent studies have identified differential effects of various selenium compounds on prostate cancer cells. This study leverages Mixture Design Response Surface Methodology to characterize the ideal combination of select Se forms against the PC-3 prostate cancer cell line...

In this study, the fundamental but previously overlooked factors of charge generation efficiency and light extraction efficiency (LEE) were explored and collaboratively optimized in tandem quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). By spontaneously forming a microstructured interface, a bulk heterojunction-like charge-generation layer composed of a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/ZnO bilayer was fabricated and an ideal charge-generation efficiency surpassing 115% was obtained. The coupling strength of the waveguide mode for the top unit and the plasmon polariton loss for the bottom unit were highly suppressed using precise thickness control, which increased the LEE of the tandem devices...

Introduction Global health collaborations between individuals from high-resource and low-resource settings are complex and often built on hierarchical structures and power differentials that are difficult to change. There have been many calls and frameworks developed to facilitate more equity within these collaborations, yet little is known about the lived experiences of global health donors and recipients working within such collaborations and how those experiences can facilitate more equitable collaboration...

We describe a community-engaged research process to co-create and implement an evidence-informed, diversity-focused body image program for early adolescents. Our team included middle school staff, students, and teachers, and university faculty and students. Team members had a diverse range of intersecting cis- and transgender, racial, sexuality, and disability identities. Specific steps to the research process included: (1) establishing team leads at each site to maintain a collaborative and non-hierarchical team structure; (2) bi-weekly advisory team meetings to establish program needs and discuss curriculum and implementation options; (3) a year-long youth co-design process to generate content ideas, pilot pieces of programming, and incorporate youth leadership through an equity lens; (4) inclusive program writing from members of socially marginalized groups; (5) program piloting to solicit feedback from teachers, facilitators, and students; and (6) collaboratively incorporating feedback...

Rare diseases have become an increasingly important public health priority due to their collective prevalence and often life-threatening nature. Incentive programs, such as the Orphan Drug Act have been introduced to increase the development of rare disease therapeutics. While the approval of these therapeutics requires supportive data from stringent pre-market studies, these data lack the ability to describe the causes of treatment response heterogeneity, leading to medications often being more harmful or less effective than predicted...

BACKGROUND: Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is commonly used in adult specialties, pediatric emergency medicine, and neonatal and pediatric critical care. Specifically, in the field of pediatric nephrology, POCUS plays a valuable role in the critical inpatient and outpatient settings. However, the lack of guidelines and a standardized curriculum for POCUS in pediatric nephrology has led to substantial discrepancies in both clinical practice and training. METHODS: A multinational, multicenter survey regarding POCUS usefulness and training was sent to 225 pediatric nephrology residents, fellows, and physicians with expertise in pediatric nephrology...

As the frequency of natural disasters increases, the study of emergency communication becomes increasingly important. The use of federated learning (FL) in this scenario can facilitate communication collaboration between devices while protecting privacy, greatly improving system performance. Considering the complex geographic environment, the flexible mobility and large communication radius of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) make them ideal auxiliary devices for wireless communication. Using the UAV as a mobile base station can better provide stable communication signals...

CT protocol management is an arduous task that requires expertise from a variety of radiology professionals, including technologists, radiologists, radiology IT professionals, and medical physicists. Each CT vendor has unique, proprietary protocol file structures, some of which may vary by scanner model, making it difficult to develop a universal framework for distilling technical parameters to a human-readable file format. An ideal solution for CT protocol management is to minimize the work required for parameter extraction by introducing a data format into the workflow that is universal to all CT scanners...

Ion-sensing hydrogels exhibit electrical conductivity, softness, and mechanical and sensory properties akin to human tissue, rendering them an ideal material for mimicking human skin. In the realm of fabricating sensors for detecting human physiological activities, they present an ideal alternative to traditional rigid metal conductors. Nevertheless, achieving ionic hydrogels with outstanding tensile properties, toughness, ionic conductivity, and transport stability poses a significant challenge. Family members often cite broader societal discourses and norms when forcing Chinese queer people to engage in heterosexual marriage (referred to as HMQ; heterosexual marriage undertaken by Chinese queer people). It is unclear what these social norms entail and how the norms are maintained. This paper examines 89 Chinese newspaper articles to uncover the societal discourses driving families to pressure queer people into heterosexual marriage. We identified three framings: (1) Highlighting problems of formality marriage (the marriage between two queer people) and gay's wife marriage (the marriage between a queer man and a heterosexual woman); (2) portraying people involved in formality marriage and gay's wife marriage as suffering from heteronormative pressure to engage in marriage; and (3) presenting formality marriage in a collaboration frame and gay's wife marriage in a deception frame...

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder that can arise as a side effect of treatment with dopamine receptor-blocking agents (DRBAs), including antipsychotic drugs (APDs) used to manage psychotic illnesses. Second-generation APDs (SGAs) are often preferred to first-generation drugs due to their lower propensity to cause TD, however many SGAs-treated patients still develop the condition. Although TD is a global health concern, evidence regarding the occurrence of TD and how it is managed in Asian countries is currently limited...

Abnormal uterine bleeding is a frequent symptom in the perimenopause. Causes are numerous, ranging from physiological reactions due to decreasing/unstable ovarian function to premalignant and malignant conditions. Benign findings such as endometrial polyps and myomas increase with age, leading to more abnormal uterine bleeding in the perimenopause. Cervical and vaginal causes of abnormal uterine bleeding should be excluded by speculum examination. Sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy should be ruled out...
