Primate communication relies on multimodal cues, such as vision and audition, to facilitate the exchange of intentions, enable social interactions, avoid predators, and foster group cohesion during daily activities. Understanding the integration of facial and vocal signals is pivotal to comprehend social interaction. In this study, we acquire whole-brain ultra-high field (9.4 T) fMRI data from awake marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) to explore brain responses to unimodal and combined facial and vocal stimuli...

BACKGROUND: Emergency general surgery (EGS) is a major part of the provision of healthcare, and patients undergoing EGS are at elevated risk of morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to determine factors contributing to patients losing their independence and being discharged to residential and nursing homes having previously lived in their own residences. METHODS: Our local data uploaded to the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) (2014-2022) were analyzed...

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is closely related to the "dual carbon" objective and the concept of sustainable development. The impact of ESG performance on audit efficiency, especially on audit delays, is still an issue to be studied in depth. Drawing on stakeholder theory, sustainable development theory, shared value concept and corporate social responsibility theory, this study adopts regression analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) to investigate the impact of ESG on audit efficiency based on the data of A-share listed companies in the period of 2015-2022, with a focus on audit delay...

OBJECTIVES: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols provide well-known benefits in the immediate recovery with a shorter length of stay (LOS) also in gynecological surgery. However, the impact of ERAS has not been clearly showed yet regarding long-term consequences and health-related quality of life (HRQL). The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of ERAS on HRQL after hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. DESIGN: Observational retrospective study with propensity score matching (PSM)...

Background: Philip Morris International's (PMI) IQOS, with its heatsticks (HEETS), is the heated tobacco product with the largest global market share. IQOS and/or electronic cigarettes use rate is higher among Arabs vs. Jews in Israel. This paper aims to compare IQOS point-of-sale (POS) marketing strategies, and regulatory compliance in Arab vs. Jewish neighborhoods in Israel. Methods: We integrated data from two separate studies including a cross-sectional survey with IQOS retailers (December 2020-April 2021) and audits of POS that sold IQOS/HEETS (April 2021-July 2021) in 5 large cities in Israel, after marketing restrictions including a POS display ban and plain packaging became effective in Israel (January 2020)...

People's mental health is intertwined with the social environment in which they reside. This chapter explores approaches for quantifying the area-level social environment, focusing specifically on socioeconomic deprivation and social fragmentation. We discuss census data and administrative units, egocentric and ecometric approaches, neighborhood audits, social media data, and street view-based assessments. We close the chapter by discussing possible paths forward from associations between social environments and health to establishing causality, including longitudinal research designs and time-series social environmental indices...

BACKGROUND: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes, that includes central obesity, hypertension, hyperglycaemia and dyslipidaemia. An audit indicated inadequate MetS screening in an Australian psychiatric recovery service. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to improve MetS screening, identification and intervention by offering streamlined lifestyle education, clinical reviews and discharge planning. This pilot program prioritized holistic, culturally-sensitive, patient-centric, and trauma-informed approaches to enhance metabolic health outcomes...

This article analyzes the impact of Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB)-type regulatory oversight and legal liability on audit quality and social surplus. We show the conditions under which regulatory oversight can improve audit quality and social surplus, as compared with the impact of legal systems. Moreover, we demonstrate that regulatory oversight is not likely to substitute effectively for a legal system. This is the first study that analyzes the possible effects of an audit regulator on auditors under different legal systems, and our results enhance understanding of the complex relationship between regulatory oversight, a legal system, and social surplus...

OBJECTIVE: The 'To Dip or Not to Dip' (TDONTD) intervention aims to reduce antibiotic prescribing for urinary tract infection (UTI) by reducing low-value dipstick testing. The aims of this study were to use a qualitative approach to (1) evaluate potential influences on the delivery of the TDONTD intervention in Australian residential aged care homes (RACHs) by identifying perceived barriers and enablers to delivery and acceptance; and (2) propose intervention strategies to address barriers and enhance enablers...

BACKGROUND: The pharma supply chain comprises various parties including distributors, manufacturers, raw material suppliers, regulators, pharmacies, hospitals, and patients. Due to the product's complexity and transaction flows, an efficient traceability system is needed in the pharma supply chain to identify the current and all previous product owners. Digitizing the track and trace process significantly improves regulatory oversight and guarantees product quality. A distributed platform for shared data that is immutable, trustworthy, accountable, and transparent in the pharmaceutical supply chain could be built using blockchain-based drug traceability...

Environmental credit rating (ECR) is a new policy that deeply integrates the construction of ecological civilisation and the social credit system in China; however, there is a paucity of research on the response of external auditors to the ECR. This study takes the environmental credit evaluation policy implementation as a quasi-natural experiment, using China's A-share listed companies in heavily polluting industries from 2008 to 2019 as samples. We construct a heterogeneous timing difference-in-differences model to empirically explore the impact of ECR on audit fees...

DESIGN: We conducted a mixed-methods embedded study as a needs assessment, involving quantitative analysis of AS concerns observed by pharmacists through an audit while attending clinical team rounds, as well as qualitative semi-structured interviews based on the Theoretical Domain Framework (TDF) to identify psychosocial barriers and facilitators for antimicrobial prescribing for an inpatient general pediatric service...
