UNLABELLED: Cervical ectopic pregnancy is the rarest form of ectopic pregnancy, where implantation occurs in the mucosa of the endocervical canal, below the internal os. Medical abortion is a safe and effective method of termination of early intrauterine pregnancies when carried out under the supervision of trained service providers. Unfortunately, unsupervised misuse of such methods can lead to grave morbidities, especially in ectopic pregnancies. We report a case of a 29-year-old female with cervical ectopic pregnancy, with a history of self-induced medical abortion...

BACKGROUND: The SLC5A8 gene is silenced in various types of cancer, including cervical cancer; we recently demonstrated that the SLC5A8 gene is also silenced in cervical cancer by hypermethylation of the CpG island in the gene promoter. This study aims to analyze whether SLC5A8 could be a tumor suppressor in cervical cancer. METHODS: After ectopic expressing SLC5A8 in the HeLa cell line, we evaluated its effects on cell behavior both in vitro and in vivo by Confocal immunofluorescence, cell proliferation, migration assays, and xenograft transplants...

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is generally defined as non-cyclic pain perceived in the pelvic area that has persisted from three to six months or longer and is unrelated to pregnancy. The etiology of CPP is complex, multifactorial, with heterogeneous presentation, and includes several diseases such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome. It may also be associated with sexual dysfunction, musculoskeletal disorders, and comorbid psychiatric symptoms. Vulvar pain disorders (VPDs) are typically categorized separately from chronic pelvic pain; among all VPDs, vulvodynia is a chronic vulvar pain of unknown etiology, lasting at least 3 months and that might be associated with other potentially linked factors...

Intramural pregnancies (IMP) are very rare and represent about 1% of ectopic pregnancies (EPs). Despite a few reported cases, there is limited awareness & knowledge among sonographers and physicians. Moreover, no established diagnostic or treatment protocol exists for such a condition. This study identifies and synthesizes what is known about IMP, including etiology and pathophysiology, common clinical presentations, imaging features, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic findings, and management. PUBMED and Google Scholar were queried to identify eligible studies...

HECW1 belongs to ubiquitin ligase (E3) HECT family, and is found to be involved in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. However, the function of HECW1 in cervical cancer (CC) remains unknown. Clinical analysis showed that HECW1 is significantly decreased in CC tumor tissues. Ectopic expression of HECW1 suppressed cell growth, promoting cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in CC cells, while downregulation of HECW1 reversed these trends, impeded proliferation and accelerated cell cycle progression of CC cells. Overexpressing of HECW1 reduced mitochondrial membrane potential and the protein expression of voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1)...

Cervical ectopic pregnancies (CEPs) are rare and life-threatening diagnoses. Risk factors have been associated with CEPs, yet their etiology and pathogenesis remain unknown. Timely intervention is vital for successful outcomes, yet it is challenged as there is no standardized approach to treatment. We present the case of a 42-year-old woman diagnosed with CEP following five weeks and one day of amenorrhea. The patient was treated with a two-dose regimen of intramuscular methotrexate (MTX) but failed to respond...

BACKGROUND In the 18th century, Morgagni described membranous dysmenorrhea as the sudden and complete detachment of the decidua during menstruation. This causes intense and painful contractions of the myometrium, aggravated by the expulsion of tissues produced by the decidualization of the endometrium. It is a rare pathology associated with oral contraceptives, ectopic pregnancies, abortions, and natural cycles, with consequent thickening and endometrial decidualization with molding of the tissue of the uterine cavity of membranous appearance...

Cervical cancer (CC) seriously affects women's health. Therefore, elucidation of the exact mechanisms and identification of novel therapeutic targets are urgently needed. In this study, we identified FAM83F, which was highly expressed in CC cells and tissues, as a potential target. Our clinical data revealed that FAM83F protein expression was markedly elevated in CC tissues and was positively correlated with poor prognosis. Moreover, we observed that FAM83F knockdown significantly inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, and suppressed glycolysis in CC cells, while its overexpression displayed opposite effects...

Cervical vagus nerve stimulation (cVNS) is a promising neuromodulation therapy for treating symptoms of disease in peripheral organs. The rat is a common animal model for studying and trialing new applications of cVNS therapy, but the stomach and its activity in rats is less well characterized than other animals, such as pigs. We sought to investigate the effects of acute, in vivo cVNS on gastric bioelectrical activity as an intermediate step to computational modeling of the effects of cVNS on gastric smooth muscle electromechanical coupling...

BACKGROUND/AIM: Cervical cancer (CC) poses a significant threat to women's health and has a relatively poor prognosis due to local invasion and metastasis. It is, therefore, crucial to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of CC metastasis. SNHG3 has been implicated in various tumor metastasis processes, but its involvement in CC has not been thoroughly studied. Our study aimed to investigate the role of SNHG3 in metastasis and elucidate its underlying mechanisms in CC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: LncRNA SNHG3 expression in CC tissues was analyzed using TCGA and GSE27469 databases...
