INTRODUCTION: Anaphylaxis is the most severe manifestation of allergic disorders. Currently, an increasing number of cells, pathways and molecules involved in the etiopathogenesis of anaphylaxis are being discovered. However, there are no conclusive biomarkers to confirm its diagnosis. Small non-coding RNAs (sncRNAs) are 18-200 nucleotide molecules that can be divided into: microRNAs (miRNAs), Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), transference RNA derived fragments (tRFs) and YRNA derived fragments (YRFs)...

The establishment of the fetomaternal interface depends on precisely regulated communication between the conceptus and the uterine environment. Recent evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) may play an important role in embryo-maternal dialogue. This study aimed to determine the expression profile of endometrial miRNAs during days 26-28 of equine pregnancy. Additionally, the study aimed to predict target genes for differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRs) and their potential role in embryo attachment, adhesion, and implantation...

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a deadly disease due to the lack of early detection. Because chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients are a high-risk group for pancreatic cancer, this study aimed to assess the differential miRNA profile in pancreatic tissue of patients with CP and pancreatic cancer. METHODS: MiRNAs were isolated from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded pancreatic tissue of 22 PDAC patients, 18 CP patients, and 10 normal pancreatic tissues from autopsy (C) cases and processed for next-generation sequencing...

Pre-eclampsia (PE), a major cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality, accounts for up to 14 % mortality of maternal and 18 % of fetal or infant mortalities. However, the pathogenesis process of PE remains unclear. The aim of this study was to identify differentially expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) in the peripheral blood exosomes of early-onset PE patients versus healthy pregnant women using high-throughput sequencing, and to find candidate miRNAs as molecular markers. Methods : Peripheral blood samples were collected from five preeclamptic patients and five healthy women...

Fold change analysis (Lyo/paired Myo) indicated the expression of 63 lncRNAs was significantly altered in the mutated group but not in the non-mutated Lyo. Additionally, 65 lncRNAs exhibited an over 1.5-fold change in the Black but not the White group. Small non-coding RNAs called microRNAs (miRNAs) control the expression of genes post-transcriptionally. Their correlation with commercial economic traits including milk, meat and egg production, as well as their effective role in animal productivity, fertility, embryo survival and disease resistance, make them significant in livestock research. The miRNAs exhibit distinct spatial and temporal expression patterns, offering insights into their functional roles within cells and tissues. Aberrant miRNA production can disrupt vital cellular processes and genetic networks, contributing to conditions like metabolic disorders and viral diseases...

Meningioma is the second most frequent tumor in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). The presence of meningioma is believed to be a negative prognostic marker in these patients. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the tumorigenesis of NF2-associated meningioma are not well characterized. Epigenetic regulation, including microRNAs (miRNAs), may be involved in the development of different tumor types in patients with NF2. The objective of this study is to explore the different characteristics of serum miRNA expression depending on the presence or absence of meningioma in patients with NF2...

Circulating miRNAs are increasingly being considered as biomarkers in various medical contexts, but the value of analyzing isomiRs (isoforms of canonical miRNA sequences) has not frequently been assessed. Here we hypothesize that an in-depth analysis of the full circulating miRNA landscape could identify specific isomiRs that are stronger biomarkers, compared to their corresponding miRNA, for identifying increased CV risk in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-a clinical unmet need. Plasma miRNAs were sequenced with next-generation sequencing (NGS)...

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive motor neuron disease characterised by the deposition of aggregated proteins including TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) in vulnerable motor neurons and the brain. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) facilitate the spread of neurodegenerative diseases and can be easily accessed in the bloodstream. This study aimed to identify a panel of EV miRNAs that can capture the pathology occurring in the brain and peripheral circulation. EVs were isolated from the cortex (BDEVs) and serum (serum EVs) of 3 month-old and 6-month-old TDP-43*Q331K and TDP-43*WT mice...

UNLABELLED: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNAs that exert their biological functions as negative regulators of gene expression. They are involved in the skin wound healing process with a dynamic expression pattern and can therefore potentially serve as biomarkers for skin wound age estimation. However, no reports have described any miRNAs as suitable reference genes (RGs) for miRNA quantification in wounded skin or samples with post-mortem changes. Here, we aimed to identify specific miRNAs as RGs for miRNA quantification to support further studies of skin wound age estimation...

Sinonasal tumours are heterogeneous malignancies, presenting different histological features and clinical behaviour. Many studies emphasize the role of specific miRNA in the development and progression of cancer, and their expression profiles could be used as prognostic biomarkers to predict the survival. Recently, using the next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based miRNome analysis the miR-34/miR-449 cluster was identified as miRNA superfamily involved in the pathogenesis of sinonasal cancers (SNCs). In the present study, we established an Argonaute-2 (AGO2): mRNA immunoprecipitation followed by high-throughput sequencing to analyse the regulatory role of miR-34/miR-449 in SNCs...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate the expression of genes involved in the establishment of the window of implantation (WOI) in the endometrium. Recent studies indicated that cell-free miRNAs in uterine fluid and blood samples could act as alternative and non-invasive sample types for endometrial receptivity analysis. In this study, we attempt to systematically evaluate whether the expression levels of cell-free microRNAs in blood samples could be used as non-invasive biomarkers for assessing endometrial receptivity status...

Parkinson's disease (PD) lacks reliable, non-invasive biomarker tests for early intervention and management. Thus, a minimally invasive test for the early detection and monitoring of PD and REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is a highly unmet need for developing drugs and planning patient care. Extracellular vehicles (EVs) are found in a wide variety of biofluids, including plasma. EV-mediated functional transfer of microRNAs (miRNAs) may be viable candidates as biomarkers for PD and iRBD. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of EV-derived small RNAs was performed in 60 normal controls, 56 iRBD patients and 53 PD patients to profile small non-coding RNAs (sncRNAs)...

Three-dimensional (3D) culturing of cells is being adopted for developing tissues for various applications such as mechanistic studies, drug testing, tissue regeneration, and animal-free meat. These approaches often involve cost-effective differentiation of stem or progenitor cells. One approach is to exploit architectural cues on a 3D substrate to drive cellular differentiation, which has been shown to be effective in various studies. Although extensive gene expression data from such studies have shown that gene expression patterns might differ, the gene regulatory networks controlling the expression of genes are rarely studied...

METHODS: High-throughput RNA sequencing techniques were performed to analyze the expression profiles of circRNAs and mRNAs in highly and poorly invasive clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) cell lines...
