The aims of our study are to evaluate ureterovesical jet flow Doppler ultrasound (US) in patients with residual ureteral stone after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and to compare with unobstructed contralateral ureter. Patients who have residual ureteral stone in intravenous pyelography (IVP) and/or computed tomography (CT) after ESWL and unobstructed contralateral ureter in 20 patients were prospectively evaluated with Doppler US. The mean peak velocity of the Doppler waveforms was obtained on the residual ureteral stone and contralateral non-obstructed ureter (17...

With the growing number of diabetics and patients with multiple problems vascular access surgery increases and therapies become more challenging. If haemodialysis is the therapy of choice for renal failure, veins of the patient's upper limbs should be preserved. Autologic fistula of the upper limb--most commonly between the radial artery and the cephalic vein--is the best option with the lowest complication risks. The purpose of vascular access surgery is to reconstruct and maintain the function of a vascular access, in collaboration with nephrologists and radiologists...

We investigated 77 patients (61 men, 16 women) with clinical signs of PAOD, without previous arterial intervention, using the color dupplex sonography and angiography. An average age was 63.5 +/- 11 years. We followed the risk factors of the atherosclerosis (smoking, diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity) and almost 86% of the patients had multiple risk factors. We found significantly higher prevalence of smoking in men and higher prevalence of obesity in women. We found significantly higher occurrence of hemodynamicaly significant atherosclerotic changes in the infrapopliteal area in diabetic patients...

Nitric oxide (NO), the key mediator synthesized by different NO synthase isoenzymes, plays an important role in endothelial function. It was recently shown that hyperhomocysteinemia is an important regulator of NO synthase. We investigated the role of homocysteine (Hcys) in erectile dysfunction (ED), which is associated with the defect in NO generation. Thirty-one nondiabetic patients and 33 control cases were evaluated. Patients with diabetes, coronary artery disease, vitamin B(12), or folate deficiency were excluded in the study...

OBJECTIVES: To establish a relationship between Doppler-Duplex colour ultrasound after prostaglandin intracorporeal injec tion and psychological features in patients suffering from erectile dysfunction. METHODS: Forty two patients with erectile dysfunction were prospectively evaluated with Doppler-Duplex colour ultra sonography after intracavernosal injection of 20 micrograms of E1 prostaglandin. Dynamic vascular pattern were analyzed an penile tumescence were graded in poor, moderate or good (I, II, III)...
