In this paper, a method based on nonlinear analysis of sEMG sensor array signals (2 arrays of 5×13 sensors) to detect chronic low back pain is presented. The use of an FFT based surrogate analysis method isolates the nonlinear structure of the signals from the effect of the power spectrum. The fractal dimension is used for the nonlinear characteristic. From the sensor arrays, a certain number of channels which exhibits the most nonlinearity for a subject are kept as input of a small neural network. A leave-one-out type cross-validation method shows a success rate of 80%...

Recent studies have shown that haptic feedback on the body, either at or away from the desired gait parameter to be changed, can improve gait performance. Here we introduced a haptic-based biofeedback device to supplement the foot pressure information of a paretic foot with a wearable vibrotactile biofeedback device attached to the back. This system provides information regarding a patient's foot pressure pattern to the patient and physical therapist. This paper presents a novel methodology for automated detection and extraction of the lumen wall from Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) frames. IVUS is an in-vivo pull back imaging technique and provides a sequential frame of images for diagnosis of atherosclerotic heart disease. Limited data and low-dose constraints are common problems in a variety of tomographic reconstruction paradigms, leading to noisy and incomplete data. Over the past few years, sinogram denoising has become an essential preprocessing step for low-dose Computed Tomographic (CT) reconstructions. We propose a novel sinogram denoising algorithm inspired by signal processing on graphs. Few-view CT reconstruction attracts wide attention in the purpose of radiation dose reduction. For analytical algorithm filtered back projection (FBP), the reconstructed image would have extremely severe artifacts. The therapeutic actions of deep brain stimulation are not fully understood. The early inflammatory response of electrode implantation is associated with symptom relief without electrical stimulation, but is negated by anti-inflammatory drugs. Early excitotoxic necrosis and subsequent glial scarring modulate the conductivity of the tissue-electrode interface, which can provide some detail into the inflammatory response of individual patients. In this study we applied phase-space analysis on the hemodynamic signals recorded from the motor cortex of human subjects using functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to decode the direction of intentional hand movements.
