INTRODUCTION: Operative treatment of acute acetabular fractures has shown better results than the non-operative approach. There is, however, limited data regarding the operative treatment of neglected acetabular fracture. METHODS: We present six subjects with neglected fracture of the acetabulum in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia. One had only open reduction and internal fixation, three had open reduction and internal fixation first before we performed arthroplasty later, one had both open reduction and internal fixation with arthroplasty, and another had immediate arthroplasty...

In the time since Letournel popularised the surgical treatment of acetabular fractures, more than 25 years ago, there have been many changes within the field, related to patients, surgical technique, implants and post-operative care. However, the long-term outcomes appear largely unchanged. Does this represent stasis or have the advances been mitigated by other negative factors? In this article we have attempted to document the recent changes within the surgery of patients with a fracture involving the acetabulum, outline contemporary management, and identify the major problem areas where further research is most needed...

Closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation (CRIF) of iliac crescent fractures and fractures of the anterior column of the acetabulum has become an established method in the treatment of these injuries. After reduction, safe insertion of a guide wire is a key step during this procedure. We present a technique that can facilitate introducing the guide wire under fluoroscopic guidance and allow for decreased radiation exposure.

PURPOSE: In recent times the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement has gained considerable interest among orthopaedic surgeons because of the relative muscle-sparing nature than other surgical approaches. However, critics believe that this approach is associated with steep learning curve and high complication rates, mainly attributed to a more limited exposure to the femur. In order to make femoral access easier and implantation of acetabulum in anatomic plane, we designed a "two incisions anterior approach technique" for total hip replacement...

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder commonly associated with osteopenia, osteoporosis, bone fractures, bone deformities, and other clinical features. A frequent radiologic finding with OI is acetabular protrusio (AP). We hypothesized that AP develops in patients with OI over time. In addition, we hypothesized that AP also develops in patients with OI without radiographic evidence of AP on initial examination. METHODS: Medical records and radiographs of 55 patients (109 hips) diagnosed with OI evaluated at our institution were retrospectively reviewed...

The present case shows a case of fracture-redislocation of the hip caused by a depressed fracture of the femoral head similar to a Hill-Sachs lesion. A 59-year-old man fell from a roof and his left hip joint was dislocated posteriorly. He was admitted to a nearby hospital, and he was referred to our hospital more than 24 hours after injury. Computed tomography (CT) suggested a bone chip from the posterior wall of the acetabulum roof and a depressed femoral head that cut into the posterior margin of the acetabulum roof...

PURPOSE: Complete visualization of certain acetabular fractures of posterior wall or column with cranial extension involving superior dome from standard surgical exposures is a challenge. Osteotomy of the greater trochanter has been used to enhance fracture visualization, especially the dome, in posterior and lateral exposures of the acetabulum. It also decreases the need for excessive muscle retraction. The purpose of the study was to investigate the outcome associated with trochanteric flip osteotomy in the management of certain acetabulum fractures...

AIMS: It may not be possible to undertake revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the presence of massive loss of acetabular bone stock using standard cementless hemispherical acetabular components and metal augments, as satisfactory stability cannot always be achieved. We aimed to study the outcome using a reconstruction cage and a porous metal augment in these patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 22 acetabular revisions in 19 patients were performed using a combination of a reconstruction cage and porous metal augments...

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic hip dislocation associated with femur intertrocanteric fracture is a rare and severe injury and it frequently occurs following a high energy trauma, Associated acetabular fractures with this injury are even more rare and potentially cause devastating consequences including avascular necrosis of the femoral head and subsequent early secondary osteoarthritis of the hip joint. PRESENTATION OF CASE: In this case report, we present a 20year old polytraumatized patient with traumatic hip dislocation associated with ipsilateral acetabulum fracture and simultaneous fractures of the ipsilateral femur...
