A total of 110 patients with malignant (n=54, 49,1%), intermediate (n=24, 21.8%) or benign (n=31, 28.2%) soft tissue tumors were included in the study aimed to determine the soft tissue tumor elastographic picture and the overall role of elastographic visualization in soft-tissue tumor diagnostics. All the patients underwent grey-scale real-time elastography, colored Doppler mapping, energy Doppler mapping and ultrasonic elastography. The ultrasonic elastography included the quality assay of tissue color mapping and tissue stiffness index assay...

The role of FDG PET/CT in management of soft tissue and bone sarcomas has been described in many studies up-to-date. However, contribution of PET/CT to diagnosis and treatment in some types of sarcomas that are seen with low incidence has not been identified properly yet. Clear cell sarcoma, synovial sarcoma of chest and myxoid lyposarcoma are rare types of sarcomas. We aimed to describe the FDG uptake patterns of these rare tumors and find out the role of FDG PET/CT in management of disease.

The separate clinico-morphological features of nonorganic retroperitoneal liposarcoma (NRL) and their prognostic value were studied in 200 patients. The type of primary NRL is histologically erentiated in 65.5%, myxoid in 16.1%, dedifferentiated in 9.2%, pleomorphic in 4.6% and mixed in 2.3%. There is a positive elation between overall survival, lyposarcoma hystologic type < 0.007) and completeness of tumor resection (p < 0.0008). Differentiated and myxoid NRL with cell volume less than 5.0% are characterized by better prognosis...

Soft-tissue sarcomas are rare diseases with >50 subtypes. Surgery is the most important treatment in localized disease, sometimes combined with radiotherapy. Chemotherapy is used as palliation in advanced disease, sometimes also with a potential to decrease tumour size and eradicate micro-metastases, making meaningful surgery possible. The role of chemotherapy as adjuvant treatment in localized disease is not finally settled. Doxorubicin and ifosfamide are the two drugs with the best established response rates in soft-tissue sarcoma, and a combination of these drugs has been a 'gold standard' for several years...

The subepithelial lesions of the gastrointestinal tract are related to mesenchymal tumors and 80% of them are GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumors). However, there are also other tumors, such as: leiomyomas, schwannomas, lipomas, glomus tumors, carcinoid tumors, aberrant pancreas and polyps or inflammatory tumors. Diagnosis of submucosal tumors is often performed during routine endoscopic examination, they are frequently located at the stomach and in most cases are clinically evidenced by their complications...
