The role of tuberculosis as a public health care priority and the availability of diagnostic tools to evaluate functional status (spirometry, plethysmography, and DLCO determination), arterial blood gases, capacity to perform exercise, lesions (chest X-ray and CT), and quality of life justify the effort to consider what needs to be done when patients have completed their treatment. To our knowledge, no review has ever evaluated this topic in a comprehensive manner. Our objective was to review the available evidence on this topic and draw conclusions regarding the future role of the "post-tuberculosis treatment" phase, which will potentially affect several million cases every year...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects that administering dexamethasone before the induction of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) has on the temporal evolution of that injury. METHODS: Wistar rats were allocated to one of three groups: pre-VILI administration of dexamethasone (dexamethasone group); pre-VILI administration of saline (control group); or ventilation only (sham group). The VILI was induced by ventilation at a high tidal volume. Animals in the dexamethasone and control groups were euthanized at 0, 4, 24, and 168 h after VILI induction...

BACKGROUND: To be able to diagnose and catalogue a patient with imbalance of the acid basic condition a gasometría must be realized. The pH and the gasometría of the blood of umbilical cord are useful tools to study the immediate situation of the newborn child. The values gasométricos in the vein and the artery of the umbilical cord change according to the geographical altitude. OBJECTIVE: To identify the normal values of the venous gases of the umbilical cord in the postpartum immediate one of normal fetuses to term, born by obstetric resolution, without hurt, in the Spanish Hospital of the Mexico City and to identify the difference with the considered normal values for other institutions of different conditions of the Mexican Republic located to different altitudes...
