The Importance of Leisure Activities for Suicidality in Adolescents and Young Adults Leisure time is important for the development of adolescents. It influences adolescents' psychological well-being and psychosocial development. It may also have a protective effect on suicidality. This study investigates how adolescents' leisure time is related to suicidality, distinguishing between general aspects and various specific leisure time activities. Data from adolescents in counseling (n = 25) and the general population (n = 57) were analyzed...

After a brief introduction to the principles and framework of COF, the procedure is illustrated using the case study. It is shown that COF can be a particularly suitable therapeutic approach for families with children aged four to ten...

BACKGROUND: Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a rare pharmacogenetic disorder that can lead to a life-threatening reaction during general anaesthesia with triggering agents. Prompt life-saving treatment includes the immediate administration of the antidote dantrolene. This study investigated Swedish healthcare providers' awareness and adherence to guidelines and recommendations with respect to MH and whether adherence to safe MH-praxis varies with hospital care-complexity level and private versus public management form...

In order to provide an up-to-date overview on changes in population's mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, a continuous literature review was conducted. Building on a rapid review, systematic and hand searches were conducted monthly until December 31, 2022. Studies were assessed for observation periods, risk of bias and outcomes. Trends in depressive symptoms in adults were summarized by vote counting. 102 publications were included from 62 studies in the adult population. Studies declined over the course of the pandemic...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate psychiatric service use depending on distances (travel times) to inpatient and outpatient service sites. METHODS: Retrospective cohort analysis of all patients aged 18-64 years who had been treated in a Swiss psychiatric services system in 2022. RESULTS: Outpatient service utilization rates decreased statistically significantly with increasing distance (travel time by public transportation) between the place of residence and the responsible outpatient clinic...

INTRODUCTION: Suboptimal radiation protection evidenced in literature necessitated the development of a theory to optimise radiation protection. To develop a theory, concept analysis of the central concept guiding the theory is required to provide explicit theoretical and operational definitions. This article presents the concept analysis of the central concept of 'facilitating a transformative radiation protection environment' used to develop a theory to optimise radiation protection...

BACKGROUND: Consent is a prerequisite for medical diagnostic and therapeutic action. There is no standardised procedure for assessing the ability to give consent. The most widely used tool for structured assessment is the MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool for Treatment (MacCAT-T). OBJECTIVES:  People with dementia have impaired capacity to consent because of their disease. In order to answer the question to what extent structured assessment procedures can be usefully applied to people with dementia, we analyse the function, strengths and weaknesses of structured assessment procedures with a focus on the MacCAT-T and discuss suggestions for modification and further development of the tool...

Background and Objectives : Despite the increasing use of biomarkers, differentiation between Alzheimer's disease (AD), behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD), and Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) remains a challenge. Apraxia is a supportive feature for diagnosing AD but is underrepresented in other dementia types. Herein, we investigated the presence and characteristic profiles of limb, verbal, and non-verbal apraxia in three major dementia types. Materials and Methods : Test for Upper Limb Apraxia (TULIA) and Apraxia Battery for Adults-2 (ABA-2) were administered in patients with AD (n = 22), bvFTD (n = 41), and PPA (n = 22), with 20 individuals serving as healthy controls (HC)...

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a congenital ion channel disorder causing prolonged ventricular repolarization and presents on surface ECG with a prolonged QTc interval. This condition predisposes to ventricular arrhythmias and also sudden cardiac death. LQTS without appropriate therapy during pregnancy and the postnatal phase poses an additionally increased risk of sudden cardiac death due to physiological changes associated with gestation. We present a case report of a 30-year-old pregnant woman with known long QT syndrome Type 2 (LQT2) and discuss the management in cardiological practice...

BCG instillations are considered to be the standard of care therapy for superficial urothelial bladder carcinoma. Although serious adverse events are uncommon, the presence of high fever for at least two days in conjunction with systemic and/or local organ manifestations (except for urogenital symptoms), with the exclusion of other causes, suffice for the diagnosis of a disseminated BCG infection. Microbiologic detection of the pathogen is not necessary for diagnosis, as the detection of granuloma is more often successful and sufficient...

The quality of care for the chronically ill is to be improved through interprofessional cooperation (IPC). To date, evaluation projects on IPC have mostly focused on the inpatient sector. The aim was to use a multiple case study design to investigate forms of IPC in primary care and to identify facilitating and inhibiting factors. Factors that facilitated the implementation of IPC included having a responsible person employed to provide the service, supportive training, and the introduction of evidence-based interventions...

There are important calls for greater inclusion of Indigenous and racialised communities in oral microbiome research. This paper uses the concept of racial capitalism (the extractive continuity of colonialism) to critically examine this inclusion agenda. Racial capitalism explicitly links capitalist exploitations with wider social oppressions e.g., racisms, sexism, ableism. It is not confined to the commercial sector but pervades white institutions, including universities. By using the lens of racial capitalism, we find inclusion agendas allow white institutions to extract social and economic value from relations of race...
