Ampicillin is reported to be stable for only 8 hours in 0.9% sodium chloride with concentrations up to 30 g/L. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if the stability of ampicillin in 0.9% sodium chloride could be extended by adding sodium phosphate for injection using modern highperformance liquid chromatographic methods. Ampicillin was prepared at concentrations of 12 g/L with and without 10 mM sodium phosphate for injection. Stability was assessed under room temperature using a validated, stability- indicating high-performance liquid chromatography assay...

AIMS: Varicocelectomy is the most common operation carried out by doctors for male infertility treatment. The aim of varicocele treatment is to hinder the refluxing venous drainage to the testis, retaining arterial inflow, and lymphatic drainage. A lot of pain is generated after this surgery, and the use of opium should be reduced to nearest minimum, as all drugs are toxins. Thus the aim of the present study is to facilitate morphine usage reduction after varicocelectomy surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One-hundred (100) patients who were varicocelectomy candidate were randomized into two groups: experimental group contain 50 patients and control group contain 50 patients as well...

Regarding the practical farming of Litopenaeus vannamei, the deterioration of water quality from intensive culture systems and environmental pollution is a common but troublesome problem in the cultivation of this species. The toxicities that result from deteriorating water quality, such as that from ammonia stress, have lethal effects on juvenile shrimp and can increase their susceptibility to pathogens. The toxicity of ammonia plays an important role in the frequently high mortality during the early stage on shrimp farms...

Endonasal endoscopic repair of medial orbital wall fractures is minimally invasive and benefits the patients. The authors describe the authors' modified balloon technique, which allows longer support of the orbital wall. From October 2010 through January 2016, the author repaired 9 isolated medial wall fractures by this method. Five patients were diagnosed as having enophthalmos of greater than 2 mm, and 6 patients had persistent diplopia before the operation. The herniated orbital contents that filled the anterior ethmoidal sinus were gently reduced with a 4-mm-diameter 0° sinus endoscope...

Since liposome-encapsulated hemoglobin with high O2 affinity (h-LEH, P50 O2  = 10 mm Hg) has been reported to accelerate skin wound healing in normal mice, it was tested in dB/dB mice with retarded wound healing, as seen in human diabetics. Two full-thickness dorsal wounds 6 mm in diameter encompassed by silicone stents were created in dB/dB mice. Two days later (day 2), the animals were randomly assigned to receive intravenous h-LEH (2 mL/kg, n = 7) or saline (2 mL/kg, n = 7). The same treatment was repeated 4 days after wounding (day 4), and the size of the skin lesions was analyzed by photography, surface perfusion was detected by Laser-Doppler imager, and plasma cytokines and chemokines were determined on days 0, 2, 4, and 7, when all animals were euthanized for morphological studies...

BACKGROUND: Prolonged labor has been demonstrated to increase adverse maternal and neonatal outcome. A practice that may decrease the risk of prolonged labor is the modification of fluid intake during labor. OBJECTIVE: Several studies have demonstrated that increased hydration in labor as well as addition of dextrose-containing fluids may be associated with a decrease in length of labor. The purpose of our study was to characterize whether high dose intravenous (IV) fluids, standard dose fluids with dextrose, or high dose fluids with dextrose show a difference in the duration of labor in nulliparas...
