The present study aims to explore the role of microRNA 145-5p (miR-145-5p) in hyperlipidemia. Using bioinformatics tools and a wide range of function and mechanism assays, we attempted to understand the specific function and potential mechanism of miR-145-5p in hyperlipidemia. A cholesterol-enriched diet induced an increase of serum cholesterol and triacylglycerol but a decrease of serum high-density lipoprotein. MiR-145-5p level was decreased in hyperlipidemia rat models. MiR-145-5p regulated lipid metabolism by antagonizing the alteration of high-density lipoprotein, cholesterol, and triacylglycerol in serum mediated by a cholesterol-enriched diet...

<b/> We investigated the effect of age on cardiometabolic risk and protective factors in females living in a countryside area of Switzerland. For this cross-sectional analysis, data from 268 female adults, who live in two neighboring countryside villages in Italian-speaking Switzerland were retained. 89 study participants were premenopausal, 82 climacteric and 97 postmenopausal. Television viewing time, short duration of sleep, overweight, blood pressure, levels of atherogenic lipids and glycated hemoglobin significantly increased with age...

Hepatic multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp2) is responsible for the majority of the biliary elimination of endogenous and exogenous substances, therefore it is important to evaluate possible functional changes in Mrp2 activity under conditions of hyperlipidemia (HL). Thus, the present study assessed the protein expression and transporting activity of hepatic Mrp2 based on the in vivo biliary excretion of phenolsulfonphthalein (PSP) as a model anionic substrate for Mrp2 in poloxamer 407-induced hyperlipidemic rats (HL rats) and compared these values with those for control rats...

OBJECTIVE: Despite the increased prevalences of hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hyperlipidemy, and obesity in patients with non-functioning adrenal adenomas (NFAAs), there is a paucity of data on long-term atherosclerotic morbidity as well as the long-term cardiovascular effects of adrenalectomy in these patients. DESIGN, PATIENTS, AND METHODS: This retrospective study includes the results of baseline and follow-up investigations of 125 patients (29 males and 96 females; mean age 60...

The psoriasis is a chronic dermatosis which is characterized by strong inflammation. Recent studies showed that the chronic inflammation plays an important part in the pathogenesis of many metabolic and vascular diseases. Moreover, the diseases mediated by lymphocytes TH1 were related to the myocardial infarction. Epidemiologic investigations showed that psoriasis is associated at the increased risk of Comorbidities and mortality per comparison to the general population. Thus, the psoriatic patients have a high prevalence of metabolic pathologies such as the diabetes, hypertension, obesity and hyperlipidemy...

The high level lipids combine with other factors of risk for atherosclerotic heart disease and stroke (CVA) are one of the most important health problems all over the world. A risk for development of such changes is higher for specific profession as policemen. In this prospective study 300 policemen were medically examined; 150 tested patients and 150 policemen in control group. The same methods were applied to both groups: detailed anamnesis, physical check up, complete laboratory testing, electrophoresis of lipids at hypercholesterolinemia, Ultra-sound examination of abdomen and The Color Doppler analysis of neck arteries...

Population based studies suggest that dietary fat is not associated directly with increased risk of colonic cancer, although several conditions can develop in the gastrointestinal system because of high fat intake. A surgical model was developed to study the effect of oxidative modified bile on colonic mucosa in hyperlipidemic rats as well as the effectiveness of natural product "Raphacol" bile granule. 150-200 g Wistar rats were treated with lipid rich diet (2% cholesterol, 20% sunflower oil, 0.5% cholic acid supplementation) and/or Raphacol (2 g/bwkg) in drinking water for 10 days...

Recent studies have suggested the existence of a close relationship between Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and atherosclerosis. However, it has been speculated that C. pneumoniae infection is not associated with early atherosclerosis but with advanced atherosclerosis. In the present study, we test this hypothesis. In 524 consecutive patients who underwent cerebral angiography were recruited for the study. From the films obtained during angiography, percent stenosis of neck internal carotid artery was calculated according to the method of the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET)...

The most widely studied hyperlipidemies in patients affected by renal insufficiency or subsequent to kidney transplant present phenotype IIa, IIb or IV. The lipidic alteration most frequently observed in chronic renal insufficiency and/or dialytic treatment is represented by hypertrigliceridemia as a result of: 1) altered VLDL metabolism; 2) reduced activity of lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT); 3) decrease in Apo-A1 and HDL3. Furthermore, marked anomalies in lipoprotein Lp (a) have been reported in hemodialysis...

Effect of antiatherosclerotic diet of 112 patients with cardioishemic disease IIa, IIb, and IV types was observed. Positive dynamics of clinical picture of disease, values of lipid metabolism and T-cell cents immunity were shown, particularly for patients with hyperlipidemy, which developed as result of effect of medium cents and genetic cents factors. Including to antiatherosclerosis diet polyunsaturated fatty acids of family (w-3) intensified hypolipidemic effect.
