Anterior chest wall deformity are mostly represented by pectus excavatum, which is a depression of the chondrosternal plastron from the 3rd to the 7th pairs of the costal cartilages, then by pectus carinatum which conversely represents a protrusion of this plastron. The major esthetic and psychosocial impact is not to be demonstrated anymore whereas the cardiopulmonary functional impact remains still highly debated. Regarding the management, curative surgical techniques such as Wurtz's sub-perichondrial simplified sternochondroplasty or Nuss' minimaly invasive technique are opposed to palliative filling technique such as customized silicone implant, lipostructure and flaps...

BACKGROUND: The Mirizzi syndrome was described by Pablo Luis Mirizzi in 1948, who emphasized this syndrome was characterized by the obstruction of the common hepatic duct due to mechanical compression caused by an impacted stone in the gallbladder neck or in the cystic duct. The incidence ranges from 0.05% to 4%. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective cross-sectional study. Based on the database of the General Surgery Division of the Prof Alejandro Posadas National Hospital, between July 2007and June 2013, charts of all patients with biliary lithiasis disease operated in this period were analyzed...

PURPOSE: To assess influence of miduretral sling (MUS) on patient's sexuality. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review using Pubmed, Medline, Embase and Cochrane: "stress urinary incontinence", "sexual function", "anti-incontinence surgery", "minimaly invasive slings", "mid-urethral slings", "tension-free vaginal tape", "transobturator vaginal tape". Sixty-nine articles really dealt with the impact of MUS on sexuality. RESULTS: The data were expressed as the median and interquartile range (IQR; 25th-75th percentile)...

There is a growing interest in minimally invasive access for aortic valve surgery. The upper hemi-sternotomy provides good aortic valve exposure, with numerous possible advantages. Nevertheless, some surgeons remain skeptical about limited access surgery because it is technically more demanding. Sutureless and rapid-deployment bioprostheses could alleviate these concerns by improving ease of implantation. We herein describe the use of video-assisted visualization to verify the position of the balloon-expandable frame during rapid aortic valve deployment...

The aim of this study was to present the experience of two centres concerning minimal invasive technique for treating hemorrhoids--Doppler Guided Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation (DGHAL). From our own experience and based on the literature--we can say that DGHAL is a minimally invasive, safe and effective method in grade II and III hemorrhoids. It can also be recommended in selected grade IV cases combined with anodermal folds resection. A properly carried out operation should involve no intra- and postoperative complications...

"Minimaly-invasive" total joint arthroplasty have been widely introduced to the orthopaedic community several years ago. The concept has received a great attention and has been greeted variably with enthusiasm, concern, and skepticism. Numerous meetings, scientific exibits, symposia and congreses has been taking place all around the world. Whether this represents the future of orthopaedic surgery or just a fad, the term "minimaly-invasive" or "minimaly-incision" are yet to be clear and establish. Our intention is to present 72 of first 100 cases of total hip arthroplasty performed by "minimaly-incision" surgery...

Endoscopic surgical technique minimaly invasives employed in the therapy of paranasal sinuses pathology are imposing up little by little to the external approach procedures, as specialists get experienced and outcomes can be assessed in middle/long term. In this paper we record the case of a woman enduring a sphenoidal mucocele non-complicated, optimal stage for the indication of endoscopic surgery minimally invasive, because in this condition the best postoperative functional results are attainable and in addition recurrence failures are reduced at minimum...

Association of extracorporal assisted coronary bypass with peripheral vascular surgery is already commonplace in the therapeutic arsenal. This case report presents a combined cardiac and vascular surgery in a high risk patient, with unstable angina following myocardial infarction and critical ischemia of a single lower limb. Synchronous minimally invasive direct coronary bypass graft and extra-anatomic aorto-profundal bypass in one single sitting were performed. The procedure was successful at 6 months follow up...

INTRODUCTION: Experience of the use of the Holmium: Yttrium-Aluminium-Garnet (Ho:YAG) laser in children has been limited. However, the Ho:YAG laser has been in clinical use in urology for several years but has mainly been used for the treatment of renal stones and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Due to its unique combination of vaporization and coagulation, the Ho:YAG laser allows a precise cutting action. The depth of penetration in water and tissue is limited to < 0.5 mm and therefore provides a safety margin...

AIMS/BACKGROUND: The anatomic structure of the liver suggests that it is a place of intense trafficking between intra-hepatic and peripheral blood compartment leukocytes. Furthermore, the liver contains a large number of passenger leukocytes that may play a role in the appearance of donor-type microchimerism after transplantation. In this study, we aimed to define the principal lymphocyte sub-populations contained in donor peripheral blood and liver grafts and in normal liver removed during minimally invasive surgery...
