Mesonephric adenocarcinomas (MAs) and mesonephric-like adenocarcinomas (MLAs) are rare, aggressive neoplasms that arise in the gynecologic tract and show overlapping morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features. While MAs occur in the cervix and are thought to arise from mesonephric remnants, MLAs occur in the endometrium and ovary and are believed to originate from transdifferentiation of Müllerian lesions. Both MAs and MLAs show a variety of architectural patterns, exhibit frequent expression of GATA3 by immunohistochemistry, and harbor KRAS mutations...

Introduction : Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), and associated co-morbidities worsen quality of life. Research concerning IBS co-morbidities in different racial/ethnic groups is very sparse. This study aimed to determine the prevalence rates of co-morbidities and possible differences in a multiracial/ethnic IBS cohort. Methods : Based on ICD-9-coded IBS diagnosis, 740 outpatients (≥18 years) were included in this retrospective study at Boston Medical Center...

BACKGROUND: CA 19-9 is a commonly assessed tumor marker, considered characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and biliary tract cancers; however, the positive predictive value of CA 19.9 is too low, and the usage of CA 19.9 as a screening tool in the healthy population remains controversial. METHODS: The presented case illustrates a reversed diagnosis of highly elevated serum CA 19-9 levels in a 54-year-old female complaining of pain in the epigastric region, shortly after COVID-19 vaccination...

Exosomes are the smallest subset of extracellular signaling vesicles secreted by most cells with the ability to communicate with other tissues and cell types over long distances. Their use in regenerative medicine has gained tremendous momentum recently due to their ability to be utilized as therapeutic options for a wide array of diseases/conditions. Over 5000 publications are currently being published yearly on this topic, and this number is only expected to dramatically increase as novel therapeutic strategies continue to be developed...

Krukenberg tumours are a rare form of metastatic tumours of the ovary. They primary site is usually the gastro-intestinal system with the most common being gastric cancer. We present the case of a 35-year-old female coming in with a large pelvi-abdominal mass for investigation. This pelvic mass showed mild to moderate metabolic activity. 18F-FDG PET-CT was able to identify the primary gastric carcinoma. Subsequent histopathology confirmed this to be gastric adenocarcinoma with metastases to the ovary.

Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause gonadal dysfunction in women of reproductive age. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is performed to restore fertility by allowing transplantation of the patient's frozen-thawed ovarian tissue or through future in vitro maturation and in vitro fertilization of frozen-thawed oocytes. Herein, we describe our initial experience with vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for ovarian tissue preservation in a young woman with malignant tumor. A 23-year-old woman with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive malignant lymphoma was scheduled for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation after experiencing relapse following R-cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone therapy...

Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (SLCT) are a rare form of sex cord stromal tumors. DICER1 germline mutations have been identified in a portion of these cases. We report a 15-year-old individual who presented to a well-child visit with secondary amenorrhea and subjective observations of a deepening voice and broadening shoulders. Elevations were noted in serum testosterone, inhibin B, androstenedione, and DHEA. Pelvic ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a left ovarian complex lesion measuring 5...

PURPOSE: To investigate whether long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the development or malignant behavior of ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), we attempted to identify lncRNAs specific to HGSC. METHODS: Total RNAs were isolated from HGSC, normal ovarian, and fallopian tube tissue samples and were subjected to a PCR array that can analyze 84 cancer-associated lncRNAs. The lncRNAs that were upregulated and downregulated in HGSC in comparison to multiple samples of normal ovary and fallopian tube were validated by real-time RT-PCR...

RECENT FINDINGS: Metformin continues to dominate in the world of antidiabetics, and its use will continue to rise because of its high efficiency and easy availability. Apart from type 2 diabetes, research is exploring its potential in other conditions such as cancer, memory loss, bone disorders, immunological diseases, and aging...

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer remains the deadliest of the gynecologic cancers in the United States. There have been limited advances in treatment strategies that have seen marked increases in overall survival. Thus, it is essential to continue developing and validating new treatment strategies and markers to identify patients who would benefit from the new strategy. In this report, we sought to further validate applications for a novel humanized anti-Sialyl Tn antibody-drug conjugate (anti-STn-ADC) in ovarian cancer...

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disease in women of childbearing age which is often associated with abnormal proliferation or apoptosis of granulosa cells (GCs). Studies proved that long non-coding RNA SNHG12 (lncRNA SNHG12) is significantly increased in ovarian cancer and cervical cancer patients and cells. The inhibition of lncRNA SNHG12 restrains the proliferation, migration, and invasion in tumor cells. OBJECTIVE: This study explores the role of lncRNA SNHG12 in the apoptosis of GCs in PCOS and the underlying regulated mechanism...

Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of death among gynecologic tumors, often detected at advanced stages. Metabolic reprogramming and increased lipid biosynthesis are key factors driving cancer cell growth. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) is a crucial enzyme involved in de novo lipid synthesis, producing mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). Here, we aimed to investigate the expression and significance of SCD1 in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Comparative analysis of normal ovarian surface epithelial (NOSE) tissues and cell lines revealed elevated SCD1 expression in EOC tissues and cells...

A 35-year-old woman underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT 2 months after a radical hysterectomy for uterine cervical cancer. An apparent FDG uptake was observed in an oval-shaped mass with an attached surgical clip in the right paracolic gutter. A similar non-FDG-avid mass with a clip was observed in the left. In this case, ovarian transposition had also been performed with metallic clips placed on both sides of the paracolic gutters. The increased FDG uptake in the right paracolic gutter was interpreted as physiological uptake in the right transposed ovary, not metastasis...
