Methods For this retrospective study, information was extracted from the hospital electronic database and IVF unit medical records. Results 2259 couples underwent 2703 IVF/ICSI cycles during 2014 to 2016. The utilization rate was approximately 1000 cycle per million of inhabitants. Mean ages ± standard deviation (SD) for women and men were 32...

This is perhaps the most apt mantra of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) as a treatment in Australasia in this day and age. It is also important to note the truth in the identification of IVF being low skill-based, largely independent of the practitioner, but more importantly costly, and with few exceptions, only available in the private sector. Such revelations really require a rethink of the entire reproductive endocrinology and infertility (CREI) subspecialty. In fact, if there is only one solution to all fertility problems - that of the 'effective IVF procedure' - why not do away completely with the clinician and simply have nurse practitioners who oversee the identified issue of an individual or couple wanting a pregnancy? This in conjunction with the outstanding scientific advances that led to the initiation and promulgation of IVF really would reduce costs by cutting out the unnecessary clinician middle-person who is unimportant in the equation...

STUDY QUESTION: Can human oocyte calcium analysis predict fertilization success after assisted oocyte activation (AOA) in patients experiencing fertilization failure after ICSI? SUMMARY ANSWER: ICSI-AOA restores the fertilization rate only in patients displaying abnormal Ca2+ oscillations during human oocyte activation. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Patients capable of activating mouse oocytes and who showed abnormal Ca2+ profiles after mouse oocyte Ca2+ analysis (M-OCA), have variable responses to ICSI-AOA...

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the heterotopic pregnancy rate using fresh versus frozen-thawed embryo transfers and factors associated with heterotopic pregnancy (HP). Management and clinical outcomes after heterotopic pregnancy were also evaluated. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, we included 12,484 women who had clinical pregnancies after in vitro fertilization treatment at our fertility center between 2012 and 2017. Patients received fresh day 3 embryos (F-D3 group), fresh day 5 blastocysts (F-D5 group), frozen-thawed day 3 embryos (T-D3 group), or frozen-thawed day 5 or 6 blastocysts (T-D5/6 groups) transfers...

A hybrid constructed wetland (CW) system was operated at pilot scale to evaluate the treatment of domestic wastewater from university dorms in Hubei province, China. The hybrid system consisted of an integrated vertical flow constructed wetland (IVF CW) (a down-flow VF CW and an up-flow VF CW) and a horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland (HSF CW). The influent for the hybrid CW containing chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), and ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N) with mean concentrations of 152, 0...

METHODS: A total of 100 couples were recruited consecutively and assigned to a PCEP intervention group or a routine care control group. The couples in the PCEP group received an additional face-to-face, couple-based, 90-minute session on enhancing partnership and coping on the day of the embryo transfer (ET)...

OBJECTIVES: Acute alcohol intoxication is often treated in emergency departments by intravenous crystalloid fluid (IVF), but it is not clear that this shortens the time to achieving sobriety. The study aim was to investigate the association of IVF infusion and length of stay in the ED. METHODS: This single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted in Japan and included patients aged ≥20years of age and treated for acute alcohol intoxication without or with IVF...

In this study, we successfully described for the first time a vitrification of epididymal Iberian ibex spermatozoa. Spermatozoa from epididymis were obtained from 15 Iberian ibex. The right epididymis' semen sample was vitrified and the left one was frozen. After thawing/warming, samples were selected by density gradient. Sperm characteristics from each treatment were evaluated. To test the spermatozoa fertilization ability, heterologous IVF was carried out using bovine oocytes. Despite of the observation of a decrease of about 40% for motility sperm between pre-freezing and post-thawing (75...

In vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) can be used by infertile couples to assist with reproduction; however, failure of the embryo to implant into the endometrial lining results in failure of the IVF treatment. The present study investigated the expression of chemokine receptor 7 (CCR7)(lo) programmed death-1(PD-1)(hi) chemokine receptor type 5 (CXCR5)+ cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4)+ T cells and associated factors in patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF). A total of 30 females with RIF and 30 healthy females were enrolled in the current study...

Elective cryopreservation of cultured embryos has become a treatment option for women at risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). The aim of our study was to investigate the outcome of elective cryopreservation and consecutive frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) in a large IVF clinic in Austria. A total of 6104 controlled ovarian hyperstimulation cycles (COH) were performed on 2998 patients including 200 patients (6.7%) who were undergoing elective cryopreservation and FET due to high risk of OHSS...

OBJECTIVE: Parental carriers of balanced structural chromosomal rearrangements such as reciprocal or Robertsonian translocations are at increased risk of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) due to the production of gametes with unbalanced non-viable chromosome variants. As a purported means of improving reproductive outcomes in this population, IVF and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) have been introduced as an alternative to natural conception and prenatal diagnosis. In this study, we evaluate the prevalence and treatment choices of couples with structural chromosomal rearrangement referred to a tertiary care RPL clinic...

Aim: To investigate which risk factors contribute to a lower oocyte retrieval ratio in women who are receiving controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Methods: The authors retrospectively analyzed 329 in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles under controlled ovarian hyperstimulation by using a gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist or agonist at Osaka Medical College, Japan. INTRODUCTION: Women undergoing fertility treatment experience high levels of stress. However, it remains uncertain if and how stress influences in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle outcome. This study aimed to investigate whether self-reported perceived and infertility-related stress and cortisol levels were associated with IVF cycle outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective cohort of 485 women receiving fertility treatment was recruited from September 2011 to December 2013 and followed until December 2014...
