Ambroxol hydrochloride (AMX) and guaifenesin (GFN) are approved drugs utilized to treat coughs through their potent mucolytic and expectorant properties. Due to their massive, combined administration in many illnesses, there is a persistent need for their concurrent estimation in different pharmaceutical formulations. Two sensitive, environmentally friendly spectrofluorimetric methods were developed. AMX was determined using the first method (I) without interference from GFN. This method depends on the quenching of Erythrosine B (EB) native fluorescence at 552 nm after excitation at 527 nm due to the formation of a non-fluorescent AMX-EB ion-pair complex in Britton-Robinson buffer (BRB) solution pH (3...

Guaifenesin and pholcodine are frequently co-formulated in certain dosage forms. A new fast first derivative synchronous spectrofluorometric method has been used for their simultaneous analysis in mixtures. Here, first derivative synchronous spectrofluorometry enabled the successful simultaneous estimation of guaifenesin at 283 nm and pholcodine at 275 nm using a wavelength difference (Δλ) of 40 nm. The method was fully validated following International Council of Harmonization guidelines...

Over-the-counter medications (OTCMs) are frequently recommended as a first-line treatment for common ailments, diseases, and illnesses. Oral liquid dosage forms are advantageous for rapid absorption with no dissolution time and are easier for pediatric and geriatric consumers to swallow. The production of these medicines by pharmaceutical industry makes them readily available to the public. Although the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provides strict guidelines to drug manufacturers of these products; the risk of counterfeiting is a global issue...

Chiral high performance liquid chromatographic technique usually employs polysaccharide-based stationary phases in a normal phase mode. This frequently generates large waste of organic solvents. Using shorter columns of 50 mm length as well as a mobile phase with a high water percentage are common approaches for greening this analytical technique. In this context, a new chiral chromatographic technique was developed for simultaneous enantio-separation of phenylephrine HCl and guaifenesin racemates. Four 50 mm cellulose-based columns were experimented to separate the four enantiomers in a reversed phase mode...

3D printing is a cutting-edge technique for manufacturing pharmaceutical drugs (Spritam), polypills (guaifenesin), nanosuspension (folic acid), and hydrogels (ibuprofen) with limitations like the choice of materials, restricted size of manufacturing, and design errors at lower and higher dimensions. In contrast, 4D printing represents an advancement on 3D printing, incorporating active materials like shape memory polymers and liquid crystal elastomers enabling printed objects to change shape in response to stimuli...

Both guaifenesin and dextromethorphan are routinely available nonprescription medications that are also common drugs of abuse amongst young adults. We describe a presentation of guaifenesin and dextromethorphan misuse resulting in acute renal failure due to bilateral nephrolithiasis. The patient underwent placement of bilateral ureteral stents but again formed small renal stones bilaterally. While most renal calculi are not drug-induced, this case highlights the potential for nephrolithiasis after guaifenesin and dextromethorphan ingestion...

Ozonolysis is a widely used and practical synthetic technique for the deconstructive oxidation of olefins using ozone. While there are numerous ozonolysis reactions that give a myriad of products and functionalities, almost all of them involve scission at the olefin double bond. Using ozone as a constructive reagent rather than a deconstructive one would open new domains of chemical reactivity and amplify molecular complexity in synthetic methodology. Here we report the use of primary ozonides as preparative synthetic intermediates for a safe and green olefin syn-dihydroxylation reaction...

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effectiveness of guaifenesin in the relief of nasal symptoms in children with chronic rhinitis (CR). We hypothesized that guaifenesin use over a 14-day study period would improve subjective nasal complaints in pediatric patients with chronic rhinitis, as measured by the SinoNasal-5 (SN-5) survey. We also hypothesized improvement in nasal volume and cross-sectional area with guaifenesin. STUDY DESIGN: Randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel group, masked clinical trial...

This mandates development of newer and effective therapeutics to prevent loss of life and contain the spread of this deadly virus. Nsp 12 or RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) is a suitable druggable target as it plays a central role in viral replication. Chronic inflammation in the airway passage leads to the clinical syndrome of pediatric asthma. Allergic reactions caused by bacterial, viral, and fungal infection lead to the immune dis-balance which primes T helper cells (Th2), a specific cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) T cell differentiation. This favors the Th2-specific response by activating the inter-leukin 4/interleukin 13 (IL-4/IL-13) cytokine signaling and further activates the secretion of immunoglobulin E (IgE). IL-13 develops bronchial asthma by elevating bronchial hyperresponsiveness and enables production of immunoglobulin M (IgM) and IgE...

The frontal EEG electrodes were placed after the horse was intubated and mechanically ventilated. The EEG data were collected continuously from Stage (S)1-transition from induction to isoflurane maintenance, S2-during surgery, S3-early recovery before xylazine sedation (0...

The development of chemoselective C(sp3 )-H deuteration is of particular interest in synthetic chemistry. We herein report the α-selective, iridium(iii)-bipyridonate-catalyzed hydrogen(H)/deuterium(D) isotope exchange of alcohols using deuterium oxide (D2 O) as the primary deuterium source. This method enables the direct, chemoselective deuteration of primary and secondary alcohols under basic or neutral conditions without being affected by coordinative functional groups such as imidazole and tetrazole. Successful substrates for deuterium labelling include the pharmaceuticals losartan potassium, rapidosept, guaifenesin, and diprophylline...

The interest in the simulated moving bed (SMB) technology lies in its variants. Some of them that have a high potential to increase the performance in enantioseparations are the ModiCon and the ModiCon+VariCol. These variants are based on the modulation of feed concentration and a combination of feed concentration and length of zones modulations. The concept of the ModiCon process in the literature is that it can be applied only for systems described by nonlinear isotherms. However, there are no numerical or experimental studies that prove that...
