Tricetin, a dietary flavonoid, has cytostatic properties and anti-metastasis activities in various cancer cells. However, the detailed impacts and underlying mechanisms of tricetin on human osteosarcoma cell metastasis are still unclear. Here, the hypothesis that tricetin possesses the anti-metastatic effects on human osteosarcoma cells was tested. The effects of tricetin on cell viability, motility, migration, and invasion in human osteosarcoma U2OS and HOS cells were investigated. Gelatin zymography, western blotting, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the luciferase assay were used to further explore the underlying mechanisms involved in anti-metastatic effects in U2OS cells...

An unavoidable reciprocal influence characterizes the mother-child dyad. Within this relationship, the presence of depression, somatization, hostility, paranoid ideation, and interpersonal sensitivity symptoms at a subclinical level and their possible input on infant motor competences has not been yet considered. Bearing in mind that motor abilities represent not only an indicator of the infant's health-status, but also the principal field to infer his/her needs, feelings and intentions, in this study the quality of infants' movements were assessed and analyzed in relationship with the maternal attitudes...

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders which is characterized by the spontaneous and unforeseeable occurrence of seizures. An automatic prediction of seizure can protect the patients from accidents and save their life. In this article, we proposed a mobile-based framework that automatically predict seizures using the information contained in electroencephalography (EEG) signals. The wireless sensor technology is used to capture the EEG signals of patients. The cloud-based services are used to collect and analyze the EEG data from the patient's mobile phone...

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone cancer in children and is a highly malignant disease, in which 25% of patients present with metastasis at diagnosis. Considerable advances in the treatment of localized disease have been achieved since the introduction of combined modality treatment, increasing the prognosis of overall survival to 70%. Yet, established therapies have only limited success in treating both metastatic disease and nonresponders to primary chemotherapy. Therefore, new therapeutic approaches are required, particularly for the control of osteosarcoma in these patient groups...

BACKGROUND: Generalized joint laxity is more prevalent in women than men and may lead to poorer post-operative outcomes in select orthopedic populations. There are no studies examining peri-operative function in patients with generalized joint laxity (GJL) and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in perceived function and quality of life as measured by the Hip Outcome Score ADL subscale (HOS-ADL), International Hip Outcomes Tool (iHOT-33) and the Short Form 12-Item Health Survey (SF-12) in women with and without GJL prior to and six months after undergoing hip arthroscopy for FAI...

We evaluated two fully-automated real-time PCR systems, the novel QIAGEN artus MRSA/SA QS-RGQ and the widely used BD MAX MRSA assay, for their diagnostic performance in MRSA admission screening in a tertiary-care university hospital. Two hundred sixteen clinical swabs were analyzed for MRSA DNA using the BD MAX MRSA assay. In parallel, the same specimens were tested with the QIAGEN artus MRSA/SA QS-RGQ. Automated steps included lysis of bacteria, DNA extraction, real-time PCR and interpretation of results. MRSA culture was additionally performed as a reference method for MRSA detection...

INTRODUCTION: Stroke is the leading cause of neurological disability in the world. In Pakistan, house officers (HOs) are usually the first contact for a stroke patient in the emergency department. Sometimes they need to make quick decisions regarding diagnosis and management without specialist supervision. Thousands of current final year MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) students will be performing the duties of HOs soon. This study documents the knowledge and confidence levels of final year students and HOs in Pakistan regarding basic facts related to initial diagnosis and management of stroke...

BACKGROUND: Autologous adipose tissue transfer may be performed for aesthetic needs following resection of osteosarcoma, the most frequent primary malignant tumor of bone, excluding myeloma. The safety of autologous adipose tissue transfer regarding the potential risk of cancer recurrence must be addressed. METHODS: Adipose tissue injection was tested in a human osteosarcoma preclinical model induced by MNNG-HOS cells. Culture media without growth factors from fetal bovine serum were conditioned with adipose tissue samples and added to two osteosarcoma cell lines (MNNG-HOS and MG-63) that were cultured in monolayer or maintained in nonadherent spheres, favoring a proliferation or quiescent stage, respectively...

INTRODUCTION: Fusions of the anaplastic lymphoma receptor tyrosine kinase gene (ALK), ret proto-oncogene (RET), ROS proto-oncogene 1, receptor tyrosine kinase gene (ROS1), B-Raf proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase gene (BRAF), and neuregulin 1 gene (NRG1) and intronic MMNG HOS Transforming gene (MET) mutations are druggable oncogene alterations in lung adenocarcinoma that cause expression of aberrant transcripts. Because these aberrant transcripts are both infrequent (incidence <5%) and mutually exclusive, multiplex assays are required to detect them in tumor samples...

Throughout cryopreservation, sperm are exposed to major osmotic challenges. Only intact membranes of sperm cells are able to regulate these volumetric changes, which can be determined by the hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOS test). Correlations between the HOS test and conventional semen variables are inconsistent. Therefore, the objectives of this study were (1) to examine relationships between HOS test results and standard semen variables before freezing and after thawing and (2) to evaluate the prognostic value of the HOS assessments on post-thaw quality of dog semen...

The chemokine receptor CCR7 is essential for migration of mature dendritic cells (DCs) to the regional lymph nodes, and it has been shown that blocking of CCR7 improves graft survival after high-risk corneal transplantation in vascularized recipient corneas. However, it is so far unknown whether blocking of CCR7 reduces migration of DCs from the avascular cornea to the draining lymph nodes and whether this leads to improved graft survival also in the low-risk setting of corneal transplantation, which accounts for the majority of perforating transplantations performed...

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Low back pain (LBP) is a common source of disability in adults and highly prevalent in patients with painful hip pathology. Persistent LBP after hip arthroplasty is associated with lower self-reported function, however, the effect of pre-operative LBP in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for FAI has not been evaluated. The purpose of this study was to determine whether improvements in self-reported hip function following arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) differed between those with and without reports of pre-operative low back pain...
