Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is one of the most common presentation of orthostatic intolerance. The syndrome is described as a multifactorial affliction. Main symptoms consist of persistent orthostatic tachycardia (heart rate increase at least 30 beats/min, lasting at least 10 min after assumic vertical position) with high noradrenalin serum concentration (measured in stand-up position). Additionally patients with POTS tend to have lover total blood volume. POTS is generally classified into dysatonomia disorders Symptoms in patients affected with POTS are chronic...

COMPARATIVE STUDY

The physiological functions of the medullary arcuate nucleus are supposed to be involved in autonomic cardioventilatory regulation, but neuropathological studies on neurodegenerative diseases have rarely reported about the arcuate nucleus. We quantitatively examined the neuronal density of the arcuate nucleus in patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA, n = 3), Parkinson's disease (PD, n = 3), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, n = 2), and control subjects (n = 6), and statistically compared the findings in each group...
