Pregnancy leads to significant changes in the body, which potentially affect the retina. Pregnancy can induce disease, such as that seen in hypertensive retinopathy and choroidopathy. It can cause exudative retinal detachments in the HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), and provoke arterial and venous retinal occlusive disease. Pregnancy may also exacerbate pre-existing retinal disease, such as idiopathic central serous chorioretinopathy (ICSC) and diabetic retinopathy...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) is an inflammatory chorioretinopathy characterized by multiple punctate, hypopigmented fundus lesions. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is an emerging imaging modality that enables high-resolution visualization of the retinal and choroidal vasculature. The objective of this study is to examine the OCTA findings in PIC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Observational, retrospective review of five patients with PIC...

PURPOSE: Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) can visualize the vascular status of the choriocapillaris noninvasively and separately from the other vascular beds. We describe focal ischemia in the choriocapillaris and reperfusion of the area in hypertensive choroidopathy using en-face OCTA. CASE: A 32-year-old woman diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension presented with acute anorthopia in the right eye after delivery via Caesarian section. Fundus examination showed an Elschnig's spot and serous retinal detachment (SRD) in the inferior perifoveal region...

METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A 37-year-old man presented with unilateral decreased vision and a fundus examination consistent with neuroretinitis. Further imaging review supported a concurrent diagnosis of central retinal vein occlusion...

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal conbercept (KH902) as the primary treatment of choroidal neovascularization secondary to punctate inner choroidopathy. METHODS: This study was a retrospective, consecutive, observational case series. We reviewed medical records of 16 eyes (16 patients) with naive subfoveal or juxtafoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to punctuate inner choroidopathy that were treated with intravitreal conbercept injections...

Early histopathological studies of diabetic choroids demonstrated loss of choriocapillaris (CC), tortuous blood vessels, microaneurysms, drusenoid deposits on Bruchs membrane, and choroidal neovascularization. The preponderance of histopathological changes were at and beyond equator. Studies from my lab suggest that diabetic choroidopathy is an inflammatory disease in that leukocyte adhesion molecules are elevated in the choroidal vasculature and polymorphonuclear neutrophils are often associated with sites of vascular loss...

Ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) is a collection of symptoms of carotid and ophthalmic artery disease of common genesis accompanied by ischemia of eyeball membranes. Specifically, the intraocular blood flow becomes impaired due to inflow reduction or arrest, while the venous outflow remains patent. Causes of OIS include arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, aortoarteritis and other vascular diseases. Clinical features depend on the extent, nature, and site of vascular involvement as well as the concurrent pathology...

AIM: To assess the correlation between choroidal thickness (CT) and the early stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in type 2 diabetic patients. METHODS: We divided 83 diabetic patients (51-80 years of age; 50 females) into non diabetic retinopathy group (NDR) and mild/moderate nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) group, and compared them with 26 non-diabetic control subjects (51-78 years of age; 16 females). Subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) and parafoveal choroidal thickness (PFCT) were measured using enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT)...

In response to the article by Parodi et al. about choroidal neovascularization (CNV) associated with Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrome (MEWDS) treated with intravitreal Ranibizumab. This article highlights the efficacy of intravitreal Ranibizumab in the treatment of CNV associated with MEWDS. In our experience, CNV is mostly associated with MEWDS in cases of a wider inflammatory spectrum such as overlapping syndrome with multifocal choroiditis (MFC) or punctuate inner choroidopathy (PIC). The whole pattern of the case presented in the article is compatible with the diagnosis of PIC, meaning that this case described an overlapping between MEWDS and PIC diagnoses...
