Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a common procedure for end-stage osteoarthritis of the tibiofemoral and patellafemoral joints. Despite a good outcome in many patients, persistent knee pain after TKA poses a significant challenge. Proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) osteoarthritis has been seen as a rare cause of such pain. In this case series, we share our experience diagnosing PTFJ dysfunction and managing it with intra-articular ultrasound-guided injections. We demonstrate that PTFJ arthropathy may be a more common cause of chronic post-TKA pain than generally believed...

PURPOSE: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of a 3-month multimodal intervention including patient education, a simple hip exercise program, footwear adjustment, and foot orthoses to reduce symptoms in patients with patellafemoral pain (PFP). METHODS: Patients were diagnosed based on a physical examination, patient symptoms and ruled out intra-articular knee pathologies by MRI. Patients were educated on PFP and participated in a 3-month exercise program; shoes with solid heel-caps were recommended, and custom made orthoses with arch support were recommended to patients with foot pronation...

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a common treatment option for end-stage osteoarthritis of the tibiofemoral and patellafemoral joints. Diagnosis and treatment of the painful TKA can pose a significant challenge. In this report, we present the unusual case of a patient 12 years after total knee replacement presenting with isolated proximal tibial-fibular osteoarthritis as a cause of lateral knee pain. Proximal tibiofibular osteoarthritis is not typically on the differential diagnosis for a painful TKA but can be a rare cause of lateral knee pain...

Treatment of patellofemoral pain is a source of much controversy. This is shown by the vast number of surgical procedures used in treatment. This article describes an arthroscopic proximal realignment technique to address patellafemoral pain and instability. We have used this technique to treat acute dislocations with capsular deficits, recurrent dislocations, and subluxations. This procedure was developed in 1988 as an alternative treatment to distal realignment in a 10-year-old child with recurrent dislocation of the patella...
