The aim of the study was the estimation of structural and metabolic changes in the rat cerebellum Purkinje cells (PC) in the dynamics of subhepatic cholestasis. Histological, histochemical and electron microscopic methods were used. It was found that the cholestasis induced the progressive intensification of the structural and metabolic disturbances in the cerebellar PC reaching their maximum on days 10-20 and resulting in PC death and PC number reduction. In the cytoplasm of these cells the reduction of the activities of succinate dehydrogenase, NADH-diaphorase, glucose-6-dehydrogenase was recorded together with the decrease of RNA content and the activation of lactate dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase...

Autorhythmic contractions of smooth musculature in visceral systems appears as basic rhythm which is special for rhythmically contracting organs. These rhythms are founded on pacemaker excitation generated by interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC), ICC-like and atypical smooth muscle cells. In the composition of the stria vascularis of the rabbit cochlea there are three types of cells: edging, medial and basal cells. The structure of these cells, their disposition and interrelationships within the stria vascularis are described. The nodes of the basal membrane whose ramification covers long mitichondria concentrating at the basement of edging cells are found in the structure of capillaries of the cochlea stria vascularis. It may be supposed that this powerful mitochondrial apparatus refers to the capillary system of the stria vascularis and represents a hypertrophic mitochondrial apparatus of pericytes...

Content and distribution of 45Ca, administered intravenously, were studied in fractions of rabbit myocardial tissue in experimental allergic and caused by injections of adrenaline heart impairments. Concentration of Ca was increased in mitochondria as well as its binding was stimulated both in mitochondria and in sarcoplasmic reticulum. Increased Ca utilization by mitichondria was also shown in vitro. Correlation between Ca accumulation in mitochondria and energy metabolism impairment in myocardium is discussed...
