A simple technique was utilized to fabricate pure hexagonal La2 O3 nanorods by utilizing lanthanum(III) nitrate hexahydrate (La(NO3 )3 ·6H2 O) and ammonia (NH4 OH). The La2 O3 nanoparticles were analyzed using XRD, TGA, Raman, SEM, FTIR, TEM, PL spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky techniques. The XRD analysis confirmed the production of La(OH)3 nanorods under appropriate conditions, which were then successfully converted into La2 O2 CO3 and finally into La2 O3 nanorods through annealing. The TGA analysis showed that the total weight loss was due to water evaporation and the dissolution of minimal moisture present in the environment...

The application of perovskite lanthanum ferrite (LaFeO3 ) as a photocatalyst has shown significant potential in the removal of persistent organic and inorganic contaminants. In the present research, LaFeO3 and various composites consisting of LaFeO3 and TiO2 were prepared. The photocatalytic efficiency of the produced catalysts was assessed by measuring their effectiveness in degrading thiamethoxam, a pesticide belonging to the second generation of neonicotinoids. Experimental investigations were carried out to examine the impact of various factors on the degradation process, including variables like concentration of thiamethoxam, catalyst amount, and pH level...

In this machine learning (ML) study, we delved into the unique properties of liquid lanthanum and the Li4 Pb alloy, revealing some unexpected features and also firmly establishing some of the debated characteristics. Leveraging interatomic potentials derived from ab initio calculations, our investigation achieved a level of precision comparable to first-principles methods while at the same time entering the hydrodynamic regime. We compared the structure factors and pair distribution functions to experimental data and unearthed distinctive collective excitations with intriguing features...

Chiral metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted much attention due to their highly tunable regular microporous structures. However, chiral electrochemical recognition based on chiral MOFs is often limited by poor charge separation and slow charge transfer kinetics. In this case, C60 can be encapsulated into the cavity of [La(BTB)] n by virtue of host-guest interactions through π-π stacking to synthesize the chiral composite C60 @[La(BTB)] n and amplify electrochemically controlled enantioselective interactions with the target enantiomers...

The zeta potential is commonly referred to as surface charge density and is a key factor in modulating the structural and functional properties of nucleic acid. Although the negative charge density of B-DNA is well understood, there is no prior description of the zeta potential measurement of Z-DNA. In this study, we demonstrated the difference between zeta potential of B-DNA and lanthanum chloride-induced Z-DNA. A series of linear repeat i.e. (CG)n /(GC)n DNA as well as branched DNA (b-DNA) structures was used for the B-to-Z DNA transition...

Though YB6 and LaB6 share the same crystal structure, atomic valence electron configuration, and phonon modes, they exhibit drastically different phonon-mediated superconductivity. YB6 superconducts below 8.4 K, giving it the second-highest critical temperature of known borides, second only to MgB2 . LaB6 does not superconduct until near-absolute zero temperatures (below 0.45 K), however. Though previous studies have quantified the canonical superconductivity descriptors of YB6 's greater Fermi-level (Ef ) density of states and higher electron-phonon coupling (EPC), the root of this difference has not been assessed with full detail of the electronic structure...

The progression of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) is complex, influenced by a myriad of factors including gut microbiota. While emerging evidence suggests that gut microbiota can have beneficial effects in managing CKD, it is also recognized that dysbiosis may contribute to the progression of CKD and associated uremic complications. Our previous research has demonstrated the efficacy of lanthanum hydroxide in delaying kidney failure and preserving renal function. However, the role of lanthanum hydroxide in modulating gut microbiota in this context remains unclear...

Using a combination of high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (HR-STEM), surface-sensitive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (sXAS), as well as electrochemical techniques, we identify the structure of the reconstructed surface layer as an amorphous (oxy)hydroxide phase that features abundant under-coordinated nickel sites...

Over the past two decades, there has been growing interest in developing catalysts to enable Haber-Bosch ammonia synthesis under milder conditions than currently pertain. Rational catalyst design requires theoretical guidance and clear mechanistic understanding. Recently, a spin-mediated promotion mechanism was proposed to activate traditionally unreactive magnetic materials such as cobalt (Co) for ammonia synthesis by introducing hetero metal atoms bound to the active site of the catalyst surface. We combined theory and experiment to validate this promotion mechanism on a lanthanum (La)/Co system...
