Background: Dimethoate (DM) is one of the most organophosphorus pesticides used all over the world to control insect pests, the extensive use of this insecticide causes a health hazard to animals and humans. Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the positive effect of green tea extract on sperm quality and testicular cytoarchitecture in male mice treated with DM and on its reproductive performance. Methods: Mice were divided into three groups, each group contained nine mice, the first group (control) was given distilled water only, the second group received DM at a dose (0...

Oral administration of colon-targeting nanoformulations holds many advantages over the systemic delivery of free drugs, or traditional nontargeting formulations in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). Currently, the most conventional method for constructing colon-targeting drug delivery systems (DDS) is by integrating the biocompatible materials poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and polylactic acid (PLA) into a copolymer. This PLGA/PLA-polyethylene glycol-folic acid (PEG-FA) copolymeric nanoformulation effectively delivers the drugs for uptake by various human colon cancer cells ( e...

Post-marketing vaccine safety surveillance aims to detect adverse events following immunization in a population. Whether certain methods of surveillance are more precise and unbiased in generating safety signals is unclear. Here, we synthesized information from existing literature to provide an overview of the strengths, weaknesses, and clinical applications of epidemiologic and analytical methods used in vaccine monitoring, focusing on cohort, case-control and self-controlled designs. These designs are proposed to be evaluated in the EUMAEUS (Evaluating Use of Methods for Adverse Event Under Surveillance-for vaccines) study because of their widespread use and potential utility...

Purpose: Routinely collected real world data (RWD) have great utility in aiding the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic response. Here we present the international Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) Characterizing Health Associated Risks and Your Baseline Disease In SARS-COV-2 (CHARYBDIS) framework for standardisation and analysis of COVID-19 RWD. Objective: Large international comparisons describing the clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 are limited. The aim of the study was to perform a large-scale descriptive characterization of COVID-19 patients with asthma. Methods: We included nine databases contributing data from January to June 2020 from the US, South Korea (KR), Spain, UK and the Netherlands. We defined two cohorts of COVID-19 patients ('diagnosed' and 'hospitalized') based on COVID-19 disease codes. We followed patients from COVID-19 index date to 30 days or death...

The past decade has seen increasing interest in microbiota-targeting therapeutic strategies that aim to modulate the gut microbiota's composition and/or function to treat chronic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), metabolic symptoms, and obesity. While targeting the gut microbiota is an innovative means for treating IBD, it typically requires an extended treatment time, hampering its potential application. Herein, using an established natural-lipid nanoparticle (nLNP) platform, we demonstrate that nLNPs encapsulated with the drug candidate 6-shogaol (6S/nLNP) distinctly altered microbiota composition within one day of treatment, significantly accelerating a process that usually requires five days using free 6-shogaol (6S)...

BACKGROUND: Capsular contracture is a well-recognized complication following prosthetic breast reconstruction. It has been the authors' observation that some patients undergoing breast reconstruction experience contracture specifically of the acellular dermal matrix placed at the time of their tissue expander insertion. The goal of the authors' study was to identify clinical and histologic findings associated with the development of acellular dermal matrix-associated contracture. METHODS: The authors performed a retrospective cohort study of all patients undergoing bilateral implant-based breast reconstruction performed by the senior author (M...

Inducible biomolecular condensates play fundamental roles in cellular responses to intracellular and environmental cues. Knowledge about their composition is crucial to understand the functions that arise specifically from the assembly of condensates. This protocol combines an optogenetic and an efficient proximity labeling approach to analyze protein modifications driven by protein condensation in cultured cells. Low endogenous biotin level ensures sharp signals. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Frattini et al...

During embryogenesis, Hox mRNA translation is tightly regulated by a sophisticated molecular mechanism that combines two RNA regulons located in their 5'UTR. First, an internal ribosome entry site (IRES) enables cap-independent translation. The second regulon is a translation inhibitory element or TIE, which ensures concomitant cap-dependent translation inhibition. In this study, we deciphered the molecular mechanisms of mouse Hoxa3 and Hoxa11 TIEs. Both TIEs possess an upstream open reading frame (uORF) that is critical to inhibit cap-dependent translation...

Postoperative cicatricial lower lid retraction is a challenging surgical problem that often disfigures the shape of the eye and has functional consequences. Depending on the severity, more than one surgical procedure may be needed to achieve the desired lower lid shape and position given the recurrent nature of scarring. Concepts of scar release, establishing lower lid vertical height, soft tissue replacement, and midcheek support are discussed in this video.
