Aliphatic and aromatic ferrocenylthiosemicarbazones were synthesized. The characterization of the new ferrocenylthiosemicarbazones was done by IR, (1)H-NMR and (13)C-NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction studies. The biological activity of the obtained compounds was assessed in terms of anticancer activity. Neurospecific proteins S-100 and GFAP were measured in the serum of 145 patients with neural tumors and 69 healthy individuals. In patients with glyoblastomas, the concentrations of S-100 and GFAP were significantly higher than in patients with anaplastic astrocytomas, benign meningiomas, and brain metastases and in healthy individuals. Serum S-100 concentrations in patients with anaplastic astrocytomas, benign meningiomas, and brain metastases were similar; significant difference from the control was found only for patients with cerebral metastases...

Proteins p130 and E2f4, members of the retinoblastoma protein (pRb) family/E2F transcription factor family, are the key elements in regulation of cell cycle and differentiation. The functional role of the p130/E2f4 in mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) is unclear. We demonstrate here that activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in mouse MSC is associated with accumulation of active forms of the p130, E2f4, and β-catenin but does not result in inhibition of cell cycle progression. The levels and phosphorylation patterns of p130, E2f4, and β-catenin in MSC do not change during cell cycle progression...

The cytostatic effect of antitumour agents line on the level of malignantly changed actively proliferating system (tumour growth) and normal actively proliferating system (splin) was investigated on the basis of DNA synthesis and cGMP rate. Studies of these antitumour agents were carried out on three tumour growth models (Pliss lymphosarcoma, Yablonovskaya glyoblastoma and human glyoblastoma heterografts (subcapsular test). It has been demonstrated that chlofiden, brotheophine, vincristine, adriablastine, natulan, phthorafur have a marked and stable effect of DNA synthesis inhibition, resulting in their marked cytostatic effect and antitumour action stability under the therapy conditions...

The cytotoxic effect of antitumour antibiotics, such as dactinomycin, mithramycin, variamycin and olivomycin on the cells of the human brain tumours (multiform glyoblastoma, arachnoidendotelioma and astrocytoma) grown by the method of the primary plasmic culture was studied. Dactinomycin was superior to the antibiotics of the aureolic acid group in the rate and level of the cytotoxic effect on the tumour cells: 76 per cent of the above tumours were sensitive to dactinomycin, 56 per cent to mithramycin and 52 per cent to variamycin and olivomycin...
