Endovascular thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion ischemic stroke is one of the most effective treatments in medicine in the past few years, despite a serious risk of reperfusion bleeding. The Dutch guideline recommended treating patients within 6-24 hours from onset only in case of an infarct core 25 ml or less and a penumbra of at least the same size. These criteria need modification, considering the results of ANGEL-ASPECT, SELECT2 AND MR CLEAN LATE. Thrombectomy in several patients whose intervention was previously thought to be futile or dangerous has now been proven highly effective...

OBJECTIVE: Acute ischemic stroke is a cause of long-term disability in developing countries. Intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (iv-tPA) is the most effective medical treatment shown to provide clinical improvement. Our aim in this study is to investigate the relationship between the clinical data of our patients treated with iv-tPA and the changes in serum inflammatory parameters; and to help increase the prevalence of treatment in secondary hospitals. METHODS: Forty-nine patients diagnosed as acute ischemic stroke and treated with iv-tPA at Siirt Research and Training Hospital between April 2019 and June 2020 were included in this study...

BACKGROUND: We sought to examine the feasibility, safety and preliminary efficacy of anterior cerebral artery (ACA) occlusions in patients undergoing endovascular treatment. METHODS: Four hundred five consecutive patients with large-vessel occlusion treated with endovascular treatment were analysed to identify all patients with acute ACA occlusion who underwent endovascular treatment. RESULTS: Twenty had ACA occlusion (primary ACA occlusion: 9, rescue ACA occlusion: 11), 395 patients had other occlusions (internal carotid artery and MCA)...

INTRODUCTION: Public knowledge and recognition of stroke and prompt calls to ambulance services when stroke is suspected are vital to the survival of stroke patients and to minimize their disability. In this study, our aim was to investigate the effectiveness of an online education session to increase middle school (11-14-year-old) students' awareness of stroke. METHODS: An interactive education session was organized for students using the online education portal of a local middle school...

OBJECTIVE: Calcified cerebral embolus (CCE), a rarely reported and underdiagnosed cause of stroke, may be the first manifestation of a vascular or cardiac disease. We describe the characteristics of CCE in a series of 9 cases and review the literature on the subject. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included patients with CCE from 3 different hospitals. We describe the diagnostic approach, neuroimaging findings, origin of the embolism, treatment, and prognosis of these patients...

REVIEW

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Tremendous improvements have been achieved in the acute care of stroke patients with the implementation of stroke units, thrombolytic drugs, and endovascular trombectomies. However, stroke survivors with neurological deficits require long periods of neurorehabilitation, which is the only approved therapy for poststroke recovery. With this scenario, more treatments are urgently needed, and only the understanding of the mechanisms of brain recovery might contribute to identify new therapeutic agents...

BACKGROUND: Recent trials established the efficacy of mechanical stent-retriever thrombectomy for treatment of stroke patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, stent-retriever thrombectomy may not accomplish successful recanalization in all patients. The aim of this study is to report the role of bail-out permanent stenting after failure of mechanical thrombectomy. METHODS: Among 430 patients included in a prospectively maintained database, we analysed 325 cases of anterior circulation LVO...

UNLABELLED: The implementation of ischemic stroke therapy has created new opportunities for clinical improvement and the reversal of adverse prognosis in patients with ischemic stroke. Mechanical thrombectomy has become the recommended treatment for acute stroke in a select group of patients and in highly specialized centres with experience in endovascular therapy. AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate of the efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke within the first six hours of illness was reported...

OBJECTIVES: The optimal surgical technique for correction of left ventricular aneurysms is still debated. This study compares the midterm results achieved with linear resection or endoventricular repair. METHODS: In the period February 2002-February 2004 forty-five consecutive patients with anterior LVA have been operated. The patients were divided in two groups according to the applied surgical technique--Group-I endoventricular repair in 23 pts (52%) and Group-II linear resection in 22 pts (47%)...
